Looked at this:

Are the rules different for BB guns? This seems like a silencer to me. :D

Search in here, Doc had a thread going about that somewhere

If it can reduce the shot from a rifle even 1 db, for even 1 shot it is a supressor, and you better have a tax stamp.

I was doing some reading just recently and actually a BB gun isn't considered a gun so it must be legal

IIRC, a BB gun isn't a "firearm" so a silencer on one is OK... but it has to be permanent and non-removable without destroying the silencer, and un-useable on a firearm even if it is removed (all from the IIRC file, no guarantees of ATF-approved fact in this post).

Did'nt they outlaw suppressors for paintball markers? I don't think they are firarms either:confused:

Talk about piss poor form.
HTF can anyone hold a rifle like that. It really looks like it is supported and they photo-chopped the support out.

1. The photo might have been 'flipped' - which may change the looks of the stance a bit
2. The photo was pretty clearly not staged to show proper firing stance, it was staged to showcase the weapon... oh, and her tits and ass :p

They did a poor job at both. They should really look at Blue Press (Dillon Catalog) for examples.

they are removable and can be attached to a "real" gun. People have already been busted.
any suppressor for a "non-firearm" must be UNABLE to be removed without destroying the suppressor. if it can be removed, cut off or what ever and attached to even a .22 by ANY means and scrubs ANY DB off the firing it must be registered.

Doc is right. If it can be removed without destroying it and can be attached to a firearm to muffle sound for 1 shot, it has to be registered.

The one on the air rifle above gets by because it is part of the barrel itself and is destroyed if removed.

ok so this isn't exactly what I was searching for but I live in suburbia and the fawkin rats run up and down my fence and drive my dogs nuts all hours of the night. I have been keeping them inside because of it but I would love to kill these fawkers. I'll get some traps but what fun is that. I need a quiet pellet gun with laser sights come awn..

there has to be a thread about the best gun that I am missing..

x2 on the bolt action and those rounds...

There's no powder so pretty much all you hear is "click"...

But there isn't any powder, so don't put them in a semi-auto because they wont cycle the bolt.

IF you've never shot one of the adult air guns, they can be as loud as a .22, We have a benjamin that puts a pellet out at 1500 FPS.

Now somebody needs to come up with a way to make a airgun only compliant rig using k baffles or some pimp internals like that.

So I was pondering silencers this morning...

As I understand it, ATF has ruled that a soda bottle is not a silencer. But the adapter to attach it to a rifle, should one use an adapter to attach a soda bottle to a rifle to improvise a silencer, is, or at least "is" the part requiring registration, on a Form 1 or Form 4, since it's not really reasonable to engrave a soda bottle.

Obviously, that adapter is not, in and of itself, a silencer, but is/has been ruled as being substantively so when attached to a rifle.

As such, could such an adapter be legally permanently attached to an air rifle, in order to allow the attachment of plastic bottles to said air rifle, and since the air rifle is not a firearm, the adapter (also not a firearm) is permanently attached to an item that is not a firearm, and adapts an item which is neither a silencer nor a firearm... ??

I realize (uhh... actually... assume... I've never tried it) that a soda bottle isn't a very *good* silencer, but an air rifle isn't a very loud item to begin with, so could this be reasonably effective and legal? It couldn't be removed and subequently attached to a rifle without destroying either the adapter or the host air rifle, and the bottle itself is just a bottle....
