anybody ever swapped a fuel injected 460 in a old truck me and a buddy were going to put his 87 460 into his 77 f250 but i couldnt get a real answer from anybody here in town some said it would work but it would be a lot of splicing old with new which would have been fine but then i hear that it would run horrible if at all because of all they sensors not being used like the crank sensor and the over drive and a bunch of other stuff but there wasnt even a crank sensor on it and i couldnt get a answer from people at ford if in 87 they enen had a overdrive tranny i thought they still used the c6 there was a bunch of other stuff but i dont know if it was all bull if some one has done this i would appreciate if you told me how it all turned out but we already went carburated but if we deciede to go back i would like to know how feasable it is

It shouldn't be a problem, I think either centec or painless makes a standalone harness for a fuel injected 460. As far as the the OD I don't see how that would affect it and if it did just pull a computer off a manual 460 and you should be good to go.

Dude,
It's possible and should turn out to be an excellent swap! I see you are in Phoenix. Go by a shop owned by a buddy of mine. It's on 27th Avenue and Maryland. Henderson Automotive.
Wes, the owner has done numerous swaps and builds fuel injection systems so he has extensive knowlege of what you are asking. :D

Do the wiring yourself. IMO, the best donor harness for a pre-EFI truck would be from an '88 F-250/350. In that year, the engine harness and engine compartment harness is all one piece but if you grab the whole thing and cut it apart, you can reduce the engine harness to only needing to hook up a few wires in your '77. In '89, Ford switched to a modular harness system which does make it a bit trickier to adapt. I should know since I swapped in an '89 460 into my '88, two completely different harness setups. I wish I was able to find an '88 460 harness so I wouldn't have had to make up a whole new harness for myself. Here's a buddy's page on swapping in a efi 460 into his '78 Bronco- http://www3.sk.sympatico.ca/rrussell/swap.html
There was no OD behind a 460 until '90. Only things you'll have to worry about is the fuel pumps, neutral safety switch wiring which you'll already have on your C6.

Hey thanks for your time. I tried pulling up your buddies link on his EFI 460 swap in his 78 bronco but it wouldn't come up. Any help is appreciated as I'm in the niddle of one myself. Thanks

An 87 460 is a carbed engine... Better double check what he actually has.
Any fuellie Speed Density truck Ford harness will work, so, if an 88 harness is easier to work with, even one for a 5.0 will work, it will just need sensor wiring modified to suit the 460. Either way, seperating the engine harness from the chassis harness isn't that huge of a project, and it actually ends up pretty decent.
