How many different styles does warn have/did have?
I know there is the three prong and five prong. Is the ATV one a 3 or 5 or something totally different?
60 bucks is alot, and the anxious people on EBAY keep the prices high, Where is a cheap place to get them?

Do ya need the whole controller? As in ya lost yours? Or did yours just stop working? either way its fairly easy to replace the switch or build one from scratch. You should be able to find the pin connecter at a decent electrical shop (trailer wiring part?) and go from there.

Why not just mount a switch on the dash:question:

eBay gets ridiculous, especially on Winch stuff for some reason...
You can get a whole controller from Tractor Supply Company for $49.95
I don't know if that's the cheapest price around, but you can walk in and walk out with one there.

Spend an hour or two and make your own inside and outside winch controllers. Here is tha last set I built for the Team USA CJ that went to the Australian Outback Challenge

While this is written for a Land Cruiser, the concept is the same for any 3 way switch (I used a motor rated momentary on-off-momentary on switch for mine).

HTH.
there is only three wires figure it out. one is for in, one is for out and one is for engage. i used a momentary switch for engaging the winch and a three position to set the direction. i did this mostly for safety as i dont want some kid flipping switches and actually engaging it. so you have to set the direction (in-off-out) then engage. works great. i just wired them up to the same connectors as the plug in switch and can use both in cab and remote switches.

I know they have at least two different kinds. On a recent trip, my buddy forgot the controller for his new 8000i (or something like that), I tried the one for my old 8274, but no go. The plug was the same, but upon further investigation, mine had 3 pins used, and his more (I think 5).

The new Warns use 5 wires, but actually all it is is the neutral had been seperated, When you plug the controller in, it makes up the neutral as well.
So, it is the same wires, just the neutral goes in and back out of the controller. According to Warn this is a safety feature.
All you have to do is open the box where the solenoids are and put one of those trailer wire connectors across the 2 neutrals where they go to the controller plug.
Mount a 2 way momentary switch on the dash and another out on the bumper or near the winch and thats all you need.
Total cost: about 7 bucks.
