Bring your starter and solenoid to the nearest auto parts store and they will test them for free. You probably got one of them wet and fried it.

Search clicky starter fix. You probably need a relay. Look here also: http://www.izook.com/reviews/clicky_fix/clickyfix.htm

Q: When I turn the key to start the engine, the starter does not engage--it only clicks.
When I turn the key to start the engine, the starter does not engage--it only clicks. What causes this and what can I do to fix it?

A: This is caused by poor current from an aging electrical system. The cure is a relay kit, called the Clicky Starter Fix which will give 100% of the battery power to the starter.

the problem is in your start solenoid. There is a slug that slides in an electro magnet, the clearance is really tight and grit ends up getting in there and jamming it up. You can take it apart and clean it, lube it a little but not too much or the grit will stick to it. I have to clean mine about once a year. The 'clicky starter fix' can sometimes help, the extra amps make the magnet more powerful but the grit is usually the root of the problem

Check the cables going to the starter make sure you didnt ground the starter out. On the starter there is 2 post and 1 blade, one post gets pos. cable, other post is left free(were most people hook up a ground), and the blade gets a wire for ign. If you ground the starter out like i explanied above^ your starter will sit there and go click,click.....From experince:p just my 2 cnts.

I wouldn't exactly call that a good fix. Especially not if your headed for the woods. Take the other dude's advise, take it apart and clean it. Nobody likes being on the trail with some guy thats broke down because he was lazy.
