I found a LD Ram 250 4x4 at pic-n-pull the other day. First one I've ever seen, has an 8 lug 9.25 rear with D-44 disconnect axle in front. My question is, I want to improve the stopping of my Ramcharger with 35's. Is the 3/4 ton caliper any bigger in the piston than my 1/2 ton stuff? They are same year model, 92, so everything looks identical, but I didn't measure the caliper piston to see what size it was.
If I do this, I'll get the 3/4 MC and take the 3/4 ton rear wheel cylinders to make it a matched setup.

There are only two calipers available for all the 80's - early 90's model 4WD Dodge trucks that I am aware of. One os for the 3500 lbs axle (D44) and the other is for the 4500 lbs axle (D60), so yes they would be the same as what is on your Ramcharger. The M.cyl would be different and not work on your Ramcharger because of the larger rear brakes on the 8 lug 9.25" axle.

I had the 5-lug pattern on my '78 trailduster with 15" rims. When I switched the D-44 out of a '76 military M880 (3/4 ton power wagon) that had the 8-lug I had to grind the outside of the caliper down to get the rim to fit on, if that helps any, I don't know about the piston size though.

Your problem was most likely that the rotor is larger so the caliper is further out from the spindle causing interference. Not that the caliper was different.
