Mid May we started on this project and we're getting there.

Here are a few pictures, through a link, because I'm too new here for the rights to posts attachments. If you want to download and attach, be my guest.

He's got a 3 inch body lift, power assisted steering, 4 over front arms, 3x3 rear arms, 930 CV's Bus tranny and stub axels, a sunroof, hydraulic clutch, disc brakes all the way around, individual braking in the rear (turning brakes), the almost 13 gal keg up front (about 100 lbs full including the keg) is structural too. It does ad weight up front, but I'm hoping that it makes the ride a little softer. 10x2 coilover kings up front, 12x2.5 FOA's in the rear. Using tortions for the rear springs for now....14 inch rears would probably have been a better choice.

The cage is high to prevent engine damage if rolled over.

The seats are on sliders (1 inch .120 wall dom over 3/4 inch tubing)

The cage is .120 4130, mostly 1-1/2 inch. The rear side windows pop-out and the front side windows roll down with the doors shut. The original cage was 1-3/4 mild steel which was probably good enough, but I needed some practice and had the tubing.

The shock mounts are 2-1/8 inch plates, one on each side of the shock and a fellow said that I might want to use 3/16....Any input is welcome.

This is my first really complete build. This should be licensed and almost street legal......

I drove a similar car on the road with a muffler getting kinks out. I was followed, but never pulled over. Once a unit followed me all the way to work. He was very curious about the car, just wanted to check it out. If ever stopped I was going to claim the 1500 lb hotrod rule for no fenders. (CA thing)
It probably weighs around 2000 lbs.

I'll update from time to time.

Respectfully submitted,

John

Motor - Right now I just put in a VW type 1 1835. Have a 2L, but am building a 2.6L type 4. The type 1 motors are easier and cheaper than the type 4. It came with a type 4 that ran, last time it was removed....yeh right!
Long story short - Spark plug wires were burnt and it had no compression, the crank end keyway wast tost and the fan stopped running...got hot, no crank core, burnt cyl., etc...Going big! 76x104

Just waiting on the crank shop and other parts to reassemble.

Will be 8:1 compression so I can use pump gas. The Keg has a port for water drainage...Mexico.

Thanks for asking.

After we took the above pictures:

The oil and power steering systems are now in, limit straps and skid panels are on brakes and electrical are almost done. A couple of more days and it'll be ready to test.

More will come in a couple of days.

You ought to be able to run more compression than that. I've got a heavily massaged 1600 single port (yes, it still has single ports and it's still stock displacement) in a '70 Ghia with 9:1. Started out running 92 octane in it and I've gone all the way down to 87 with still no signs of knocking.
