Have a new to me 91 trooper,v6 with the throttle body injection unit. previous owner ran it out of gas then had a hard time getting it going again. he was able to get it to run so long as he supplied fuel down the throttle body until it caught fire.(this tells me fuel supply problem) the small fire melted the wires to the injectors. i've heard that you can't get it to run correctly if you splice or otherwise mess with these wires. any thoughts on that? also checked it today and the pump is suppling plenty of fuel to the tbi. any thoughts on why it didn't want to run before the wires burnt? one final question, can one of the weber carb kits be made to fit this motor? they don't sell one for it but didn't know if it might work anyway. thanks for any info

It is not unusual to burn up the fuel pump if you run it out of gas (which it uses for cooling), but you say it is working...what about the fuel pressure regulator?

where might i find the regulator? sorry new to this thing. i'm used to land rovers and land cruisers. how much fuel pressure should i be getting at the inlet to the tbi?

it is marroon but has been in my possession for a couple weeks now and sitting at my buddies for a while before that. figured out that the regulator is right there beside the injectors, inside the metering device. i plan to drain the bad gas out of the tank tomorrow, replace the filter, and splice the wires back together and see what that gets me. then maybe replace the injectors..?? idk, any thoughts? please!!

Well if it was run out of gas the filter could be clogged with crap from the tank, take the filter out and back flush it and see if crap comes out if it is clogged or dirty that would def. keep it from running.

well today i drained the old gas out, spliced in some new wires to the injectors, put in about 4 gallons of gas, took the fuel supply line off the tbi unit (so as to pump the remaining bad fuel out of the line), turned the key, and BAM, nothing. no fuel no pumping. started messing with the fuel pump relay and fuel pump back up relay and decided power is there but not getting the signal to close the relay to pump gas. i was able to get the relay to close using jumpers so i think they work. IT was pumping fine just a couple days ago! idk? ECM maybe? where is it?

The ecm is under the center console,Ask over on planetisuzoo.com
I've seen this before,just don't remember an answer:p
I think it had something to do with oil pressure sending unit controlling the fuel pump circuit.

Have you tried Powering the pump manually? As in running a jumper wire directly to the pump. I don't think splicing and repairing the injector wires would hurt anything as long as you soldered the connections and used heat shrink tubing on it. You could probably get a new injector harness from a junk yard for cheap. the plastic plugs do come out of the injector. just push the two tabs and wiggle them out. Don't forget to label which injector plug goes to which injector.
