: 33s and no lift

Here's the deal, it is getting to be time to get tires and with the baby coming and college (you know the story) I just can't afford a lift. I've seen a couple of Jimmy's (full size) and Blazers here locally running around on 31s, they just seem so small. They do look however like they fit easy under the wheel wells.

I have been told 32s are the biggest you can go without a lift. But can I put 33s on there without cutting and get by until I can get a lift? Or should I just get my springs re-arched??

What should I do here? ?? I hate my stock tires.

Thanks.

what year is it? if it's 73-87 it is PAINFULLY cheap to lift.......like 300 dollars will get it done. seems like doing it right the first time might be the way to go, bt on second thought I have given up anymore lift and starting to cut....boy it's fun with big tires and small lift. makes for a nice sturdy base to wheel from as well.anyways just my thoughts..........................

I had 33 on my 89 with no lift. Just a little rubbing on hard turns, but I never wheeled it before the lift.

Maybe you should go HERE (http://www.coloradok5.com). It's a great site, and they are very helpful when it comes to the basics. Most people here would fire up the sawzall ($40.00 at a pawn shop) throw on a new blade ($2.00-$3.00 at Home depot) and adjust the truck to fit the tires. Whalla - $45.00 later they fit. And for the cost of an additional blade you can go 35's later.

There are two factors which will determine whether or not you will be able to run 33's without a lift. First, the condition of your stock springs, and second the true size of the 33's you want to run. I have seen numerous Blazers and Jimmy's running 33's without lifts, but it is doubtful that they were wheeled hard.

As Scott said it is very inexpensive to lift a K5 enough to clear 33's or 35's. Check the "For Sale" section on the CK5 website, someone is always wanting to sell lifts cheap.

Thanks for all the help. For now I won't be wheeling her too hard. It's an 85, and I know it is cheap to lift but wheels and tires have to come first. I want to get at least decent sized tires so that I can have it look half decent when I do lift it.

I would rather use the sawzall. I want to maintain a low center of gravity.

Oh, how I love this project. Chevy's are truly great aren't they. . .

After the 4 in lift on my truck the 33's looked way small. I ended up buying 35's and cutting the finders a little.

I also have an 85k5 I have been running 33 x 12.5 x 15 pro comp- xterrains for about 6 months, and have had no problems. My stock springs are in awsome shape and I have a jeep that has bought for serious abuse, so the k5 doesn't get wheeled that hard. I do rub a little on hard off-road turns, but that's it.

I bought my '78 with no lift and 33" tires.they would rub a little off road. You want a cheap lift to fit 33's.....add an extra leaf to the front(get it out of factory 3 leaf spring),add extended front shackles(give you 1/2" of lift),and some 2" rear blocks and U-bolts.One more item.....run them on factory stock wheels. That's the main key item...if you get 10" rims then you will more than likely rub.I agree the stock 31's belong on jeeps!!!

Buy the 33s if that what you want, then lift the car however much you need. As they have all said you could put a 2 inch lift on for prolly under $100-200 if you shop around. You could make a shackle flip kit for the rear, and grab some add a leafs for the front from a junk yard. It all depends how you wheel, I have 35s on my 85k5 with 9 inches of lift they rub.

p.s. If you dont mind the passenger side drooping 2" I am selling my old 6 inch springs $20 for the pair.

on my '77 I helped the previous owner trim the fenders to run 35's stock! I now run 37" SSR's with 4" lift and it really didnt take much trimming at all (well the back has a lot of work done by mother nature)

3" body lift is 69.95 and will fit ANY 33" tire

Or trim the fenders. You'll only need to trim a little off the front fenders, won't even have to touch the rears...
