: A Q for all you who own waggy rear ends...

i bought a wide trak waggy rear end Dana 44......i pulled the rear axles out and the bearings were tapered!!!:rolleyes: Damn!. how are they preloaded? shims? if so, where are they....

I currently have a dana 44 rear end under my 61' CJ-5, and it has tapered bearings. I FAWKIN HATE IT!!, thats why it freaked me out.:mad:

Ive never seen any rear axle bearings that werent tapered?

they are preloaded by the brake backing plate, it serves as a bearing retainer also.

Bolt the axle in and go. thats it. You definetly dont want roller bearings they just suck all together.
