: SJ 410 in junkyard.....
reddwarf 07-24-2002, 09:08 PM Ok, there's a SJ 410 in my local u pull it.
Motor is gone, along with tranny. T case and axles are there.
My question is, is it worth it to snag either the case or the gears?
I heard they are lower than stock...how much?
BTW, at this yard, a t casse is 97 bucks and gearsets are like 25.99
moose island4x4 07-24-2002, 10:01 PM grab it if it has an 84 T-case in it. Them gears are priceless:beer:
And 85 have 3.90 ratio R&P's
reddwarf 07-24-2002, 10:10 PM Ok, so how do I tell which it is? Can I tell it is an 85 because it has 3.91 r&p or did other years have this too?
What is the ratio in the 84 case? How bout the 84 axles? 3.73?
Sorry, I'm not a Zuk guy yet, but I'm working on it.
Also, is there anything else I should try to grab that can swap on to a later Sammy? And are all Zuk drive shafts that tiny? LOL
Slowzuki 07-25-2002, 08:08 AM SJ 410 axles have 4:10 gears and the 3rd members do not fit in sammy housings.
The t-case has 2 different gear sets, the 84 can be used to make the original rockcrawler gear sets. the high range in both sets is about 1.590 or so I believe.
The t-case has a drum parking brake on it, the flanges are smaller than a sam. The input shaft and front output shaft on at least the earlier than 84 are small and can't be swapped for sammy flanges.
The knuckles will fit on a sammy housing but are usually drum (change in 83? maybe)

reddwarf 07-25-2002, 11:59 AM Hmmm....I see....so not really anything worth grabbing there for a budget-beater Sammy project...
Oh well, I hate that yard anyways

Not really true. The 85's and some 84's will bolt right into a samurai. Also if you take the drum brake assembally off A samurai flange will fit right on athat out put shaft. For the other two you just have to machine the center hole to fit the samurai driveshaft then rotate the flange and drill some new holes. The 12% reduction in both high and low i snoce for a DD with 31's.
There is a way to tell. On the side of the case there is a bar that goes through the inside if there is an aluminum cap over the bar below the flange then it is not an 85 and you have to do the stuff I described to make it work. If you can actually see the black bar then it will bolt right up.
reddwarf 07-25-2002, 03:15 PM Hmmm, ok...
So how bout the diffs? Is it 4.10 or 3.91? If they REALLY DO bolt in and they are 4.10 then I would like to get them....will they both work (front and rear)? Same splines etc?

looks like they are talkin knuckles, never seen drim brake pumpkins:flipoff2:
reddwarf 07-25-2002, 04:09 PM Man, they're talkin about all kinds of shit! Guess I need to stick to Chevy where EVERYTHING bolts up :flipoff2:
Guess I'm back to looking for Sidekick front diffs....
Shawn_C 07-25-2002, 08:03 PM I have no idea on the diffs. I don't think they will. I only know about the x-fer cause I spent alot of time trying to make it work.....
Slowzuki 07-26-2002, 06:29 AM The 3.90 gears are from an SJ-413, I know because I drive one. They were built in 1984/85 and sold in fall 84 and 85. They had a 1.3L engine same as a sam and had narrow samurai housing with disc brakes. THe calipers were the same as the late sj-410 calipers.
The knuckles from sj 410 /413/ sam are interchange able but the sj 410 has smaller diff.
The 85 t-case has a t-case drum brake with the same bolt pattern as the sam and the same gearing as a sam. The later sj-410 cases have the lower gearing and are characterized by ribbing. The early cases are smooth on the outside, and the pto area is not machined flat.
I have a early sj-410 case installed in my 85, it has the drum from the 85 t-case on it and sj flanges installed on the other 2 sam d-shafts to mate to the sj case flanges.
The cases original mounting system is some arms much weaker than a sam and a bushing set very similiar to the poly kits spidertrax sells now.
