I just picked up an old Ramsey RE8000 for cheap.
The winch appears to either be missing a cross bar, or be dependant on the winch mount to hold it together.
I've read through the manual, but it doesn't make reference to the piece I think is missing.
Anyone using an older RE8000? If so, can you post or email me pics of it mounted to your rig?
Thanks!
This is the best I could find. It is a newer pic but I don't think they have changed.

On my RE10k the winch is held together by the mount... I also fabbed up a 1/4" thick steel brace for the holes on the back side.....just in case

i have one in a mount in the garage floor. it was on my jeep but it now going on the trailer. it is SSSSLLLLLOOOOOOOOWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it is held together with the mounts. they are heavy duty winches but they are just too slow for recovery use if you use it much. i took mine off and replaced it with a m8274 and i am alot happier with it.
I've got one on my jeep. If nobody gets you a pic by thursday, I'll try to get a pic and e-mail you. I've got to figure out my new camera.

hmmmmmmm so high 5 you are saying it should be mounted suspended? as you are saying front to back? what were the designed for if suspended
i mounted mine up and down like cbassett states it
would it matter how its mounted
got mine for free and just bolted it up to crossmember then added brace across top to frame
I sent them to the email address you have listed in your profile. If they don't come threw this time shot me a pm.

Snack,
I suppose as long as it hasn't ripped in two, you've done a sufficient job of mounting it! :D
Only consideration I'd think would be to make sure it gets adequate oil in that position.
