I've got a ridiculous deadline build on a cj7 right now.

I need to know what you're running and what springs rates you have.

I'm building a CJ 7 w/ a 350 700r4 atlas 60/14 42's 111" wheel base

the rear is back 4" from stock. the front is out whatever the difference is :D

It has a winch.

The rear will have a jambo rack w/ cooler gerry can light gear rack. has corners. 2" material cage.

Got a guesstimate on spring rates for me? I need to order coils yesterday.

16" fox 2.0 c/o's

thanks for any help.

not entirely sure what you're getting at but thanks for not helping :shaking:

Looks like first shot is going to be 175/200 front

I tried 250/200 up front in a YJ with the 4.0L and it was stiff like hell. But they where 2.5 COs so 3 coils. I don't know if it makes any difference.

yea that sounds like it would probably be pretty stiff. I imagine w/ the bigger c/o's the spring rate doesn't change because the number is the number, but the strength in the no2 chamber is heightened w/ less pressure. thanks for the numbers and input!

With 16's and that kind of drivetrain combo, I'd say that the 200/250 would be a good starting point for the front. Are you putting coil-overs all the way around?

yep... c/o's all around.

ok...I'll probably need a variety pack then lol :D

thanks

I am doing almost the exact same build on a tj, I am curious as well as to what everybody has been doing for spring rates. Cant really seem to find that info anywhere.

I am running 250s over 350s on my CJ (16 in coils, 17 in Bilsteins) and I am going to lower the top coils to about 175. It's a bit too stiff. I am using slider stops to lock out the top coils after about 3 inches of compression from static.

Anyways I would start with a soft setup and then swapping for stiffer rate if you like. If it shows a little soft you could always preload the coils to keep the height and run while you buy other springs. With stiff ones your stuck riding a woodtable.

Currently running 200 / 300 in the front and 200 / 275 in the rear. I do not seem to have a problem with the front but the rear is running really stiff. I have 14" sway aways all the way around on a 98 TJ (4.0) with 37" tires.

I think I may try 150 / 250 in the rear to see how that works or revalve the compression to aid in absorbing large hits at high speeds.

I've got a YJ with the front pushed forward about 7", running 14" fox 2.0s I'm running 100/400 with about 2" of combined spring rate before the dual rate stop transitions.

I'm running the 4.0 and no fenders, so I may be down a little weight from where you are?

My rear is SOA on waggy front leaf springs. I plan to push it back and run 16" coilovers back there. I will probly go with 90/350 or so in the rear. Unless I need more rate in the front after stretching the rear, then I would go 125/400 front and 100/350 rear.

Either way I'm running triple rate(helper/seating) coils in the rear, and just the standard dual rate in the front.

Hope that helps. I got my spring rate ideas from the spring rate thread on here posted by erik_d_lux.

help me understand something as well.

Eibach coils, example
1400 = 14" coil .250 is the spring ID 2.5" and say .0175 is 175 lbs. so that's considered a 175 for a 2" c/o.

I figure since they're 16" shocks I'm going to get a pair of 14's and a pair of 16's. I'll be showing 6" of shaft at ride height. 14's would be the top coil, lesser weight. I'm thinking I'm going to get 2 150's, 2 175's, 2 200's, and 2 250's. 175 250 front should cover it and 150 200 in the rear will get it by for at least this trip.

For 16" shocks I would go 14 over 16. I think you are going to want the difference between your top and bottom rates to be larger.

Here is the thread I mentioned before:

Without knowing your per corner sprung weight, that's probably about as close of a guess as you can get.

With that kind of amount of up travel, you should probably be running a helper coil as well.
