Ok
I had to replace a wheelstud on my buddies rig yesterday
the drum came off after some moderate hammering (nothing insane) and everything went smoothly
the drum was a little tight going on but went right on
he is now saying that the truck vibrates pretty bad in the rear when he hits the brake
i have NEVER seen a drum warp by hammering it and i have hammered many drums before
any ideas?
anyone warp a drum from a D35???

Yes you can...I see it all the time! Where did you hit the drum...face or side?? have them surfaced....check the wear pattern on the shoes to see if they make full contact.
One of my tire techs did this to my brothers Cherokee (35)
had to replace both drums....good luck
BTW...may resurface and still have probs due to axle seating surface being bent

Crawl under your buddy's rig and really look at a D35 drum compared to the tires he's running they're tiny like a little baby. We shall call them minidrums. BTW no need to hammer on a drum that hard if it gave up that much of a fight back off the adjuster a little it would have pulled right off. The BFH is a weapon of last resort.:D

lol
thanks, his rig is Stock with 30" BFG's, nothing crazy there
the drum came off and then we backed off the adjuster and now it moves on and off freely
still get the vibe though
its pretty bad
i gave it a visual check and all looked fine
weird
take it to a brake shop and check if it's out of round. I've had that happen on a few vehicles.

How big of a hammer? BFH, RBFH or RRBFH.
you should have loosened the adjuster first!!!

BM,
How's Cali???
You can warp a drum that small by braking down a decent mountain and using the ebrake at the botton to have lunch. It will make it out of round no problem. Imagine an 8.25s drum after...smaller and scary.
Imagine how much coming down Mt. Washington would heat up a brake...
Then lay into it at (basicly) two points at the bottom for an hour while they cool.
Smacking them with a hammer will wreck 'em too. Maybe not too bad.
If he is still stopping at a reasonable distance have him use them for a few days. Either it will not change (or get worse) or they may work themselves "round" again. Kinda like flat spots on a bias tire.

Thanks Guys
Turns out the drum was warped
After getting it cut and driven on for a few days (to rewear the pads) All is back to norm
Wow, what a piece of KA KA the D35 is
thanks
