Since I'm screwing-myself AGAIN with the
legal-department, I have a question.
I'm swapping a 92' 350 tpi motor into my
cj7. the year issue is OK with the
smog ref's rules. Here's the "grey" area.
The motor/tranny combo must be of same-type
that was available in the donor vehicle.
well, GM never offered a 5.7 (350) motor
with a manual trans. Only the 5.0 (305)
motors came with sticks. Since I'm going
for the NV4500/350 tpi combo, what are my
chances of getting this combo passed at the
smog-ref station??? The back of the block
clearly shows 5.7 in the casting on the
rear of the block where it mates to the bellhousing. maybe I could grind it down
a little to try to make a "0" out of a "7"??
Just had a thought!!! grind away the "7"
of the 5.7 on the block, and use jb weld to
make an "0".....!!!!! what do ya all think?
I might have just saved my ass alot of trouble!
or, try to cheat the ref and install a
700R4 in the jeep (without any transcase)
or front d line just to get it passed thru
the smog ref, then after yank the trans and
install my NV4500/transcase drivetrain stuff.
Two issues about this 2nd option:
major PITA for just to pass smog on a motor
swap.
expense of an auto tranny just for above.
future-problems associated with bi-annual
smog inspection due to "engine-swap" with
350/auto-trans, now has manual trans....
What are the tech/smog expert opinions on
this please.....
