I think for hard and often street use a spool or mini spool is a bad choice only because it is locked solid all the time. This with any traction on the street could twist and eventually break an axle shaft. Your best bet for your use would be a lockrite or even an Auburn posi. They arent such a positive locker and the Auburn will be the easiest on your axles.Lockrites have a built in slop to them that I personally dont like for street use and could be a u joint popper for the hot rodder. Auburn posi IMHO

4wheelparts.com has a complete front rear set of 4.10 gears and auburn posis for like $950.00, is that worth the money and will my 10-bolt be able to handle it????

spools (or lincoln lookers) are a little more easy to live with (and on the axles) if you run reall agressive tires, ie. Boggers. The big ol' lugs give more than you'd think, and really help out on keeping the chirps down to a minimun, too. Of course, with the great traction off road, you stand a better chance of kissing an axle bye-bye!

Granade it for sure. 10bolt rear is junk.
Go find a 14 rear. Four lane may have a SF 14. Detroit for a ff14 is a little over $300. You can get a FF14 from Four lane or Cagle pretty reasonable. Four lane had a 77 with 3.73 gears last time I was there. Brown 3/4 against the fence. Problem is you would need to convert the front to 8 lug. That's might be pricy with the IFS
Hell your talking 4.10's Hmmmmmmmmmmm I might have a 4.10 Detroit equiped 12 bolt for sale in the next few months.
I have almost enough parts to build one. I have a housing and a 4.10 R&P but you would need to set the gears and get a carrier (read as Detroit) and find some shafts (proably come up with one of them). I'd sell it for $200. If you went open you could proably have it going for $400 if you can set the gears. Add $500 if you go Detroit.
(No Dep not any stuff I owe you. I got you covered once I get my Burb converted.)

I'd say find yourself a 14 bolt SF, assuming you want to keep it 6 lug. Didn't some of the Z-71s come with them?

Yup, just get a 6lug 14bolt 9.5" ring gear and bolt it in.

Ohh I think all Z7's come with Gov Locks aka "granade lockers". I think the build code on the sticker in the glove box is G80. Prtty sure that's part of what makes a Z71 package. To even spool it your goingto need to change the carrier and reset the gears.
