I was lucky that mine came off easy.

If you dont need to save the coupler just use vice grips.

I used a metal wedge and just hammered it in. Once it spread far enough, I could get a punch on the backside of the coupler and knocked it off.

Mine was a bitch both times I took it off. I welded a nut to it and threaded a bolt into it and "pressed" it off. Worked like a charm both times.

That's what I did but the original poster said he needed to remove it without a welder :D

THAT IS JUST WEIRD! I was wondering the same thing. Did you change the clock/time zone recently under your Profile on here?

I had to take mine to a transmission shop to get it taken off.

Do you actually need to save the coupler if not just cut the thing off with a cut off wheel or JBweld a nut on the inside.

how are you supposed to take it off with a cuttoff wheel without ruining shit

Cut slits in it lengthwise in 2 areas but then you risk damaging the splines so I don't know if that's such a hot idea.

1. Cut a seam in coupler
2. check depth, if to shallow restart at step 1
4. hit with chisel on the along the cut seam to spread coupler a little.
5. repeat step 1 if no go for spreading otherwise continue to step 6.
6. tap around coupler with small hammer to break rust or bond.
7. remove coupler if failure start again at step 1 otherwise enjoy fresh beer.
