To me the XD8000i looks just like the XD9000 but the 9000 comes with 125' where the 8000 comes with 100' so will the 8000 fit 125" or better yet 135'. Anyone have one of these winches and are able to tell me? I hope so because I have a 135' sitting on my porch for a friend that I hope will fit.

Typically, you can use more plasma in the same size, or use about the same amount in the next larger size plasma. We put 140 feet of 3/8 plasma on my partners 8274 and I have 130 ft of 3/8 plasma on my HS9500I

Put it on if it's sitting there! :flipoff2:

I was able to fit about 110' of 3/8 plaz on my X8000.
I had a 135' foot length so I had to swage a new eye at the drum end.

The formula for rope capacity on a wincg drum is:

Length to be stored (in feet) = A(B^2 - C^2) / 15.3 (D)^2

where

A - width of drum (traverse)
B - flange diameter
C - barrel diameter
D - rope diameter

Normally a min of 4 wraps should be kept on drum , except Amsteel, where it is 8 wraps.

But if you run extra cable on the winch drum, you'll find that any side-pull will load the cable up on one end of the drum and jam it pretty quick. I've given thought to taking a couple yards OFF my cable, and carrying a 50 foot extension instead.

Or just getting an 8274, since the drums about a foot high. :D
