FAWK!!!!

a few months ago I installed a york on my cruiser (2F), it blew tons of oil, I figured it was bad. Last week I found a york at PNP, This thing had to me a month old! it was spankin new! I pluged that inner port and instaled it. Guess what?,....yup, its blowin oil, BAD. Im talkin I have to drain my seperator two times per tire.

I have allways been told I could mount it on its side as long as the inlet port was on top(as mine is)
I tried to mount mine vert but it hits my hood (fj55)

WTF??????? <IMG SRC="smilies/mad.gif" border="0">

I have a large displacment York in the Bronco, laying on it's side. York Install (http://www.off-road.com/ford/bigbroncos/tech/ac_conv.html) It has suction on the top and discharge on the bottom. Very little oil in the seperater. And I run a paint gun oil/water filter on my air chuck just to make sure I dont inject oil in the tires.. It does collect a little over several months of use. (I wheel at least twice a month, and my compressor is used by several of the club members) Are you over filling it? Are you saying the oil passage fix made no difference? damn was looking at doing that this weekend.....maybe it's not worth it.

I checked how much oil my York 210R blew out before and after the plug and after I plugged it it blows out only 1 teaspoon in 5 minutes of running at idle. Without the plug it would blow about 1 teaspoon per minute. The only other way for the oil to get from the crank case to the outlet is by the rings. SabreForce also installs a crank case vent in addition to plugging the oil port to the suction side.

try a 1/4" recycle line from your oil sep back to the suction side it will help. and if you mount a tank somewhere that will collect the oil. then take all air off top of tank. but a tank will slow down the tire air ups

Why would a tank slow airing up a tire? Additionally,,, Reseating a bead is much more likly if you have a large volume of air to inject in to the tire,, Not possible with out a tank.

I know this is gonna sound goofy but it works sweet. I had a york on its side in my Scout. Some guys I wheeled with from Colorado passed on this tip. These folks have quality rigs that get used plenty.

Make a dip stick out of a white zip tie, cut off the smooth tapered end, so the oil hangs in the "teeth". Add 20/50w oil into the York until you have between 5/8 and 13/16 depth in the bottom. Its enough to lube things, but not get pumped out. They had done it this way for years. I ran mine like that for quite awhile and didnt lose any oil, it really worked. I f you lose some add it back to this range.

One thing I remember is that it took 5-10 minutes to blow all the oil that was in the suction and discharge ports out before it stopped spitting oil. I checked again: after 5 minutes of running time it maybe spit out 10 drops of oil. Yes, the plug greatly diminishes the amount of oil they pump out, but venting the crank case may help too.

thanks for the tips guys, I appreciate it.

Im starting to think a vent just might help. when I first instaled it it was fine, but after a drive to a trail this weekend, it started blowin oil bad.

I will try the vent , I would imagine a barbed fitting at the fill plug should do it.

I just checked out on board air .com

<IMG width=288 height=99 SRC="http://www.pirate4x4.com/ubb/uploads/pg07[1].JPG">

they say to maintain oil level at 6 oz and to have it at 8 to 12 oz for optimum proformance.

Im thinking this chart is more for AC applications and less for air comp.

maybe 12oz is a bit much? It did look kinda frothed

I put 12 oz (wanting optimum)
will try 6oz and see

mike dremman just made a custom york mounting bracket for morgan's 55 so that it won't interfere with the hood while mounted upright. you might want to talk to morgan about cost/fit etc.
