Hi,

I,v got the 7/8 Allen socket and the one inch drive breaker bar. I tried to get one king pin out and I heard some scarry craking noises. So I stoped and found that the king pin cracked verticaly in three spots at the corner of the hex cavity in the top of the pin. I think I can easily cut the "walls" off, meaning the top half of the pin and weld a bar to it to be able to turn it out. My main concern is
A. Do I have to be worried about breaking the "ring" part of the nuckle?

B. Has anyone used heat to expand the ring.?

C. Could I weaken the nuckle by heating it?

Thanks
Russ

I had a PITA time removing the kingpins when I rebuilt mine. I ended up using a torch to blow the bottoms out of them and then heated up the whole knuckle around the king pin. They finally gave up their grip after using a 1" impact. I have not had any problems with the knuckles after using heat on them. Put a little never seize on the threads of the new ones.

They are torqued to 600ft/lbs. Heating the knuckle won't damage it. Just don't go overboard. Those knuckles get very hot when welded on! Try pb blaster and tap it with a hammer while trying to turn it. Should come off easily enough.

Everyone I ever removed broke so I resorted to using a 30" monkey wrench with a 4 foot cheater bar and removal is a snap.:D
