i came across a nice stock yj for 2500 that has the 4.0 and 5 speed trans hard top and soft top. i am going to do a soa swap on it when i get back home (out of state working right now) i know i need to order a sye and cv shaft for it. along with brake lines, perches, shocks, ubolts and fab up a few things. but from all of the things i have looked at alot of people say you need to go histeer. is that necessary? because i dont want to have to buy a histeer kit twice since i will be putting different axles under it in a few months. if anybody has and info or any other parts i am missing the info would be appreciated.

I'm running a dropped pitman arm on mine and that's it. Everyone says it won't work, but for a temporary deal it will work fine.

Don't do the SOA until you get the new axles. No use in doing things two or three times, not to mention the money spent on the d30 getting wasted when you upgrade.

there wont be much done to the d30 to worry about wasting money. they wont be getting gears and lockers or anything like that. and will only be in to keep me wheeling while im building my axles

i am still trying to decide on the new axles though. i will either go with an 8 lug 44 front and 60 rear or 60 front and 70 or 14bt rear either way it will be full width with lockers. most likely a detroit in the rear and selectable locker in front. and running 39.5 tsls. the plan is to have the drivetrain done within 4-6 months then do the cage, tube fenders and tie up the loose ends to get it ready to take to moab.

i would if most of my tools and parts werent half way across the country flipoff2 i will be back in oregon in 2 weeks and will get started on it then. i have a month off of work to get the lift done then back to work for another month or 2 to pay off the axles gears and cage

Hmm 87 wrangler stock 4.0 doesn't add up. They came with a 4.2 carbed motor. And don't do the SOA till you finish your new axles. If you are having rubbing issues with your tires then start trimming. You are going to have to trim to fit 39.5 inch tires anyway. I know the temptation to build up axles tires lift etc is strong but IMO a roll cage is far more important.

i meant stock as in suspension and has nothing done to it.
the fenders will be getting trimmed plenty going tube fenders front and rear anyways.

Yep 1987 came with the 4.2 and a garbage a$$ Carter carb. I would know I own one. I say just wait and build it all at once. My 2 cents.

i think i am going to take that advice. i will probably just throw some shackles and 33"s on it. im getting screwed with work now anyways and will only get a week off instead of the month i was supposed to get.
