: yes dear............I bought another cruiser.
Deep South Cruisers 07-26-2002, 07:25 AM yes, after many months of searching, cursing, and haggling I have made a deal on a 78 FJ40 that sould be delivered in the next two weeks :flipoff2:
the only thing is.......I haven't told the wife yet ;)
should I just let it roll in the driveway and act surprised or hide it in the garage until she finds it on her own:D
Mustard Dog 07-26-2002, 07:33 AM I would fully act surprised:
Wife: Whos Cruiser is that in the driveway?
You: What Cruiser?
W: The blue FJ40 in the driveway.
Y: What driveway?
W: Our driveway, you're trying to avoid the question!
Y: I have no idea of what you're talking about dear, but that sure would be cool if somebody just left a 40 in our driveway.
See how easy that is ;)
GloNDark 07-26-2002, 07:41 AM FINALLY!! ;)
Right on man, glad to see you didn't run out and grab the first hunk o crap you found. I wish I could talk my friends into looking a little first. haha
I am with MD on this one, except maybe come home and be all, "Hey honey, wow thanks for buying me a cruiser" :D
Good luck!! I know what it's like having a pile of trucks on the property and the wife tapping her foot behind ya.
ginericfj80 07-26-2002, 07:41 AM Yes, but look at his sig line. "Adventures begin at the end of driveway." He might be on a new adventure at the end of the driveway.
Personally, I'd tell her before the arrival. She does know you've been looking right? So then it really shouldn't be that big of a surprise.
I always take my wife along for the purchase. She's good at picking things apart. She says things like, "Honey, I think that other one was nicer. It didn't have this and this and it had those new tires and ...." She doesn't lie, by the time we find something that is acceptable to both of us we have literally looked at 100s. It took us 4 years to find our 60. But when we saw it we both knew it was the one.
The BJ deal was strange. It was already at our house and all of a sudden I came into the house and announced that I just bought it from my friend. I bought it on accident. I jokingly offered him a low dollar amount thinking he'd never take it. With the pressure of being divorced and having 5 Toyota 4x4s to move from Idaho to Pennsylvania he said, "yes". She wasn't too excited about this. But it worked out in the end.
Deep South Cruisers 07-26-2002, 07:43 AM BAAAAAHAHAHA great strategy :D
I wonder how long it could be in the garage without her even noticing.
honey, i'm storing this FJ40 for a friend of mine, he's hiding it from his wife and I promised to take care of it:D

Thank you all for your help in finding my Cruiser!:D
Deep South Cruisers 07-26-2002, 08:47 AM the wifey is smarter than the average bear :D
I have been looking so long she thinks I gave up. She joked last weekend about how she expected to see a 40 drive down the driveway any day now. She would probably be more excited if it was an automatic so she could drive it too (stick challenged).
I appreciate all the help on this site, you guys kept me from making some BIG mistakes. I know at one time I asked somebody to hold my money because I couldn't control myself :D
KrustyKruiser 07-26-2002, 08:53 AM Congrats, Man! I know you have been looking long enough. Just be a man about it when you tell your wife, in other words, lie through your teeth:D
Now, if only LCL can fing a parentally suitable 40!

I had contacted the owner a year ago and he's just now getting back to me. i considered buying it to and re-selling to pay for part on MY Fj40:D .
texican 07-26-2002, 10:46 AM Mine don't even notice extra ones any more.......as long as Old Yeller is still here with the keys so she can drive it.
Mentioned selling it once, MISTAKE!!!

fj40guy 07-26-2002, 07:11 PM Oh, I bought another car. Seller said no problem keeping it for another month in AZ. Only catch was he FEDEX'd me the title and paper work... Pam spotted the paper work, I'm BUSTED BIG TIME! Damn, I really needed to get her a nice diamond FIRST, before the car comes home. Yep one of those "move on it quick deals"....
