i am doing mine this winter..yea there is alot of pictures on here. it would be nice if there was a whole thread just for this since none have real good detail on the whole buildup. i am doing a 03 w a 60 ,14 bolt. making it a truggy. linked w coilovers. i will have a build thread when i do it. collecting the rest of my parts now.

i always ask the same question....what do you want to know? you dont get specific answers without specific questions.

I didnt take enough pictures for a build thread (over 3 years ago), and it seems none have any of the others...therefore, if you want to know something, ask...otherwise i cant just sit back and try to remember and describe every step of a process that took me a month to finish.

no need for a traction bar on the front?

Nope.

do you get much wheel hop on the front?

None...but i dont do any sled pulls or tugs, and very little crawling that would induce front wheel-hop.

how is your pinion angle on the front?

Havent measured...maybe i can do that today...but its fine, Jesse at HAD built the shaft (42* 1410 CV, with a real small toyota joint on the pinion side...little fucker works great)

did you need to change it?

Nope, left it stock.

how long are the front springs?

46" i think it is...the mid 80s popluar Chevy 1/2ton fronts

that is a dana 50 or 60?

D50 from a 2002 F-250

will a 78 79 60 just bolt in?

I dont know exactly what you mean here? No?

looks great!!! just a few questions to maybe help people out doing the swap.

Thanks for the compliment...been going strong for 3+ years as a daily driver.

How low can you go with the SAS? I'd like to SAS mine, but don't want to lift it too high. I would think there could be crossmember clearance issues with a lower or stock height truck. I only plan on running 35's max. I use mine for remote camping/expedition style stuff so don't need a huge tire or lift, just the added durability of the solid axle. Yeah, I've already damaged the Al lower arms and frame mounts on the stock truck:shaking: I figure I could pick up some late model SD axles and swap both into my truck... or just sell the thing and buy a SD.

Just sell the thing and buy a gas superduty...that would be my choice out of what you listed, otherwise, you will have to cut out the main front crossmember, and make a new one to take its place that runs straight across rather than dropping down. Other than that, i see no major clearance issues. You could even keep the factory one, and plate the outer bends with a straight peice, cut at a 45*.

Good question, i thought i changed it over to Icon a long time ago...thanks for the heads up.

thanks for the input farmboy.i ran 35's on mine for 5 years, 2 diffrent f150's. have broke 4 cv joints and that is it.run a rancho lift if you dont want anything bigger then 35's.keeps everything in stock running angles. full sub frame not just brackets that will bend. mine is moving to the next stage of solid axle and truggy...had alot of fun with it on ifs though and it held up very well.
my favorite solid axle f150 was built buy xxx..i will see if i can find a picture.
