Feinstein just signed on as a cosponsor of the Wildalnds Heritiage Act that is proposed wilderness in Inyo and Mono Counties, CA. Thought it was bad enough having pseudo Republican Buck McKeon coauthoring this bill. Despite all AAPL's efforts, Boxer claimed this bill is uncontested in the recent Subcommittee hearings. This in spite of the fact we had 1,000 people show up at an Inyo County Public Meeting on the Bill. Boxer staff were invited , but couldn't bother to attend.
While we may not be able to defeat it, we have at least had a lot of success gaining many concessions that make it more bearable. Amazing working with Boxer staff because for every acre we negotiate out , they insist on adding twice as much elsewhere and then call this "compromise". They laugh at us when we counter that true compromise would be alternative recreational designation for the rest of the Forest. They naturally can't support that, because their real agenda is to come back for the rest of the Forest eventually. What a racket!!
while we know everyone is busy fighting for their local Forest access, we sure could use some letters in opposition to the Wild Heritage Act directed to your Senators and Congressmen.
Thanks,
