: Broken trans mount for a YJ...again

I've been through 3 transmission mounts in the past year. The rubber part that is sandwiched between the metal plates keeps tearing in half. I'm not running any torque monster engine. I've got a 4 cylinder engine with the 5 sp tranny.

So is there anyone else out there who is running into the same problems? Is there such a thing as a high performance tranny mount? I haven't seen one yet so I've bought the 2 replacements at the Jeep dealer.

I'm thinking of making my own mount. Any suggestions?

BTW, Did the search for transmission mounts and came up empty handed for my specific problem...

Thanks,
-Jeff

check your motor mountd.. if you've got a bad motor mount the torque/twist could be transferint to the tranny mount and tearing it off.

oh yeah..

Check the torque arm bushing too.

If you don't have the torque arm bushing set up or good motor mounts you will eat that tranny mount.

You can also get the poly mounts. they last longer than the rubber but transmit a little more vibs.

Summit racing has lifetime warranted mounts and they work, I had similiar problems until I switched to there mount.

I just posted a question , that is similar to yours , I have the same set up , 4cyl, etc etc.... I found that the motor mount was broken ... I think sceep hit it on the head..... This was causing my whole transmission and transfercase to move around way to much , and this in turn will screw up your other mounts... You should be able to go to your parts store and they should have it for about 20 dollars give or take a few.... This is all if the motor mount is broken

If it turns out that you have a broken motor mount, replace it with a TJ 6 cylinder mount. It takes a little modification but is stronger.

Better yet spend a few bucks and get the MORE (http://www.mountainoffroad.com/catalog/BombProof%20MM/bombproof.htm) mounts. You will never have to wonder if you have a motor mount problem.

Actually, the replacement mopar part will be much stronger (motor mount).

They were redesigned a couple of times, when I broke mine the replacement from the dealer was at least twice as thick as my original 91's. Usually passenger side that goes.
