I'm looking to pickup a little 1500 to 2000 watt generator for my camper. Of course, I would really like to have a Honda eu2000i, but the price tag is pretty hard to swallow. I would looking around my local outlet store today and saw that they had a factory reconditioned Coleman Powermate 1850 (1500W continuous, 1850W peak) for a decent price. It has a 4hp Subaru engine, 120VAC outlet and 12VDC outlet.

I can't find any information on how quiet or loud it is. Anyone here have one of these? If so, how loud is it?

A friend has one. It did not strike me as very quiet, nothing like a honda, but alot quieter than my 10k watt.

I have one for our trailer, it was $399. It has worked great for us, but it's not the most quiet of generators. The people we go camping with always joke that I am mowing the lawn when I start it up since it sounds like a mower compared to his Honda 3000 watt generator. My parents picked up a Yamaha 2400 watt generator from Cabelas (on sale $1099) and it is even quieter than the Honda.

i have one and have to agree with the above. they work great if you dont mind the noise they put out. they are not the loudest i have heard but no way are they comparable to the yamaha or honda models. the one i have has a briggs motor in it(plastic is grey) i guess its an older model... i have had it for around 10 years. works when you need it. i'm sure you can figure out a way to quiet it down tho.

third vote for "works, but loud".

Bang-for-buck is good, but the Honda's are were its at. Keep your eyes on Craig's list and look for a deal. The 1000eu is a nice unit. Light, compact and quite as hell. You can pretty much stand over it and hold a conversation. They are only $600-700 new, you can sometimes score them for below $300 used if your fast enough. Depending on what your running it might be all you need. If you get two (or a buddy gets one as well) you can tie them together. A 2000u is only like 1K. Sure lots of $$ but you get what you pay for. Again, they come up used every once in a while for a good deal.

No time to watch for a deal. I'm leaving in a couple of days.... so I broke down and bought eu2000i. Best deal I could find was $899 for the unit gassed up, tested, maintenance walk-thru, operation walk-thru, extra spark plug, here ya go, bye.

$900 out the door (with $5 in gas :D) is a pretty good deal. In the long run, you'll be happy.

Yeah, it was a good deal. Kinda fawked up though in a way. MSRP is like $1079. Their price is $929. If you happen to mention the magic words "RV" or "camper", then they put you into the RV category and suddenly the price is $899. To me that just seems weird.... seems like you should get the same generator for the same price whether you're using if for a camper or any other application.

About 2 yrs ago I bought a used honda 2600 generator from Home Depot out of their tool rental department for $400 bucks for my remodeling business, so for any one looking for another used source keep your eyes peeled. Yes, it is quiet.

i have a built in onan microquiet 4000 in my trailer, which isn't near as quiet as a honda2000, but i notice with the compartment door closed it's substantially quieter....so why not buy a cheaper louder generator and built some sort of enclosure for it.....with mine it's not the exhaust as much as it's the vibration.....just food for thought....
