while in the middle of doing a clutch on a 1990 YJ with ax15 and 258 I checked to see if the fancy luk supplied pilot bearing would fit over the sm420. fit over the tip perfect.

All the writeups say a custom bushing needs to be cut, but it looks like the fancy off the shelf roller bearing can be used. Anyone see why this wouldn't work?

maybe the input shaft to the sm420 is too short and requires a special, longer or protruding pilot bearing?

i'll measure in the morning.

there is only a minor difference in length. The AX5 is little longer and I will assume it is the same length as the AX15.
i did the sawp, 2.5 4 cyl - SM420- 231 and used the off thee shelf roller bearing.
