So I think I want to put some 12V, 175A quick-disconcerts on the back (and front) of a couple of my trucks.

For a removable winch, jumper cables etc.

Recommendation on wire size? I'm thinking 4ga would probably work, but might go up to #2 for the rear runs to help with voltage drop. Proper "battery" cable...

Anyone think of a good reason to run a separate ground cable all the way back rather than using the frame? If $$ was no object I would, but 1/3 the wire is 1/3 the wire.

The winch I'm setting up has #4 right now. Not sure on what jumper cables are going to be (haven't gotten them yet).

I did the same on my new tow rig. Ran # 2 to the back and grounded to the frame.

Welding cable is great for this.

That is what i run... I just bought some #1/0 -- yikes -- almost $3 a foot.

With DC current like a vehicle you should keep your ground wire as short as possible because of the flow of electrons.. i would ground it on the chasis and keep that wire as short as possible.. then get a 2 gauge wire for the positive cable you will be very happy this way.
