: too many sticks, what are they all for
GreyZuk 07-22-2008, 10:52 PM Not familiar with this jeep I am selling for my boss. he also doesn't know anything about it since it's been in the barn for 5 years. what are all the sticks for? I know the tallest is the shift know and I assume the one with the large white knob is the t-case, but I don't kow what the other smaller two are for

Greg_Volkman 07-22-2008, 11:00 PM that looks like an M38A1 (old army jeep) or a very early CJ-5
you probably have an over/under drive (should be a warn unit on the back of the t-case)
GreyZuk 07-22-2008, 11:03 PM we do have a pink slip for it, but I haven't checked it out recently I think it's either late 50's or very early 60's. the closed knuckle front axles were stopped in the early 60's at some point

benjpn 07-23-2008, 06:48 AM Yup looks like an early CJ-5. One shifter is for the tranny, one is for an overdrive, probably the white ball, and two for the tcase, one to shift into 4low, the other shifts the front axle in and out for 4wd but there is a pin that eliminated 2LOW.
ky scrambled 07-23-2008, 06:55 AM Pto?

x2.
White is your OD judging by the position. My 55 looked exactly the same. Looks like a cool piece. Good luck with the sale.
mnbubba 07-23-2008, 02:08 PM Check out www.earlycj5.com, show them the pictures and they will tell you everything you need to know about the Jeep. Heck one of them might even buy it.
oldjeep 07-24-2008, 04:22 AM 1 tranny shifter
White one is a warn or husky overdrive
2 for the transfercase
The one labeled MICO is a old Mico brake lock
Warpig58 07-26-2008, 04:55 PM CJ's had closed knuckles until 1971. You have top mounted wipers, which I think diappeared in 1969. That looks like a CJ, not an MB. The dash lever labeled Mico is a hydraulic brake lock, step on the brakes, flip the lever and release the brakes and the Micolock holds line pressure on whatever axle it is plumbed into.
fcfred 08-13-2008, 08:37 PM how much does he want to sell it for?
GreyZuk 08-13-2008, 08:41 PM how much does he want to sell it for?
Well he is hoping to get something in the $4500-5k range, since there is no KBB for this stuff, we really have no way of knowing for sure what it should go for, it does run very good, I guess the market will eventually tell him what it's "worth"
Greg_Volkman 08-13-2008, 09:39 PM crawl under it and take a pic of the t-case from the rear facing the front. you should be able to see the over/under drive bolted to the rear of the t-case...you'll know it if you see it.
other than that - i think the "mico" lever is a pto for a snow plow.
Beat95YJ 08-13-2008, 09:42 PM I love early CJ5's and that one seems relatively intact, but I think you will find that is a fairly high price. Generally a maintained running vehicle in that condition is available at that price. I would think it will shake out below $3k.
That being said it is a nice jeep and I wish him/you luck.
Best way to value something like that is search craigslist and trader online for comps. Look at your local classifieds as well.
Arizona_Jeep 08-13-2008, 09:52 PM Here to help you out I rounded up 3 comps for you from my area:
http://phoenix.craigslist.org/wvl/car/775211593.html
http://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/car/768929253.html
http://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/cto/792701431.html
Hope that helps, I would agree with Beat95YJ in saying your looking around $2500-$3000 for that Jeep. Maybe a bit more, like $3500 because it is original (or close).
resqme 08-14-2008, 04:04 PM other than that - i think the "mico" lever is a pto for a snow plow.
Nope, as noted above it is a hydraulic brake lock.
This is correct:
1 tranny shifter
White one is a warn or husky overdrive
2 for the transfercase
The one labeled MICO is a old Mico brake lock

Man I so wish I lived in AZ, there is no way to get these Jeeps here in the north east. Everything here in the 1960 range is rusted beyond repair, and the good ones are more money for shittier quality.
