in the 2nd picture, wheres the white one go? and in general...where does the switch from the key come into play to jump the starter over? where does it go? why does the starter have power form the alt. and the battery separatly?

You can buy a 1 wire gm alt. and save yourself alot of trouble. I bought my last one at a junkyard in tellico for $25 rebuilt. : )

The big wire to the starter is the main hot cable, the one to the alt. is the charging circut. The white wire would go to the idiot light.
If you tie the white wire into anything hot, it will backfeed and not let you shut the engine off, and it will drain the battery once you do get it shut-off. If you don't use the white wire you will have to rev it to 3000 rpms. to get the alt. to start charging.

I forgot the details, but I have been thru this several times. The 1 wire alt. is the best way I have found to use a gm alt without the factory ign. switch.
