the wife's zj has bad carrier bearings. also 31" tires with 3:73 gears. i was considering 4:10's but am i wasting my time. i have a 8.8 avail. for $400.00 but would need to be regeared also.

I'm kinda in the same boat, looking to regear to 4.10 plus I need to completely redo my brakes. No way I'm stuffing that money into that D35. Have you tried calling around a little more or doing an online search for a 8.8 with 4.10 gears? http://www.car-part.com is a good site for searching salvage yards. I found 2 with 4.10 for $300 only 20 minutes from me.

Cheeper to go to a junkyard and get a 4 cyl jeep tj rear end. It already has 4:10's and it should fit ok.

Remember their is always the wheeler who is young to the sport. If you regear to 4.10s and then next year pull it your now selling a 35 with 4.10s, that should be worth the price of the regear to the right person.
I just bought a front 44 with 4.27s from a guy who went to a HP 60. He thought the 44 was junk, to me it is a upgrade from a 30.

TJs are 60"
Should be the same as a Grand.

ZJ and Tj brackets are not the same. Id look for another axle, D35 is not worth spending money on

i like the idea of the 8.8 (disk brake) is it worth trying to salvage my mounting hardware or should i spend the money on the R/E,M.O.R.E. kit. ($300.00)?? sorry for all the rookie ?

Did you regear the trans case if so I wouldn't bother with 31" you don't need a lot of gearing done yet. I'd say change out the bearings leave the gears alone and wait for a good deal on something you really want. Are you gonna regear the front too?

no on the t-case. the plan was to do the ft. also. no offroad use to speak of with this rig.lot's of mountain road driving, we take the occasional snow run to uncle toms in the winter of maybee camping now & then. the real reason for the regear was to try to get the tranny back to it's normal opperational status.(shifts alot the way it is) ant the other thought was that it wouls hopefully help cut down on the major preignition problem that has all of a sudden plagued our zj. thanks .

In that case just regear. Look for a set of used TJ gears from a 4 to keep the cost down.
