Hey there guys & gals,

Thought I would share a simple bolt on install I did last week. I have been looking for a hood vent that I could ad to my factory hood. PSC has had theirs on their website for like 2yrs & I really liked it... Problem is production kept getting pushed out. There are a handfull of others I kind of liked, but didnt.. If that makes any sense.. I wanted the louvers to look like they belonged & did not just get bolted on. So here is what I found @ 4x4rockshop from Aluminum Customs.

It comes in bare aluminum with the arrow cut outs, which it also has the arrow inserts to fill in if you choose. Here is mine with som 5min epoxy holding the arrows in place waiting to be sanded.

The hood has been removed, the templete is in place ready for about 18 pilot holes to be drilled.

The molestation is complete, that perfectly good sheet metal has been removed.

After painting the louver & the bare metal after trimming out the hood, & letting the paint dry.. It was time for about 32 more holes for the hardware to hold the louver to the hood. Here is the top side.

The under side.

I live in the high desert & like to slow crawl over the rocks... Never had over heating issues, but it sure does get hot in the engine compartment. This should help let some of that heat out & prolong the life of that I-6.

I bought mine from A to Z this past weekend at the Jeep show in York, PA. They have them on their site for 194.95 w/ free shipping.

True, Gen Right/ Race Ace are a couple I have seen that are cheaper... But I did not like how they look like they were added after the fact. The only 2 full panels I had seen were from Aluminum Customs/ PSC. For me, I think the single panel gives a much cleaner look. Ok, so I over paid by $6 it was 199.95. Psc's is $275 & it has been coming out for 2yrs & still waiting. Then there is always the AEV heat reduction hood that is really out of my budget & it only has a small opening near the radiator.

You don't need a huge amount of venting for it to be effective. I bought two additional cowl vents from DaveysJeeps.Com ($25 or so total to my door). They are right above the headers of my motor.

Any idea how much cooler your Jeep runs now that you have the louvers? Doesnt have to be exact but can you tell the difference on the gauge and or under hood?

Any idea how much cooler your Jeep runsIf you're talking to me, no I never actually measured it. I do know that last year I'd put the hand throttle on high idle on a hot day while the York aired me and friends up, and the temp would start to climb. Now the gauge is rock solid no matter at what I do. I also can feel a hot breeze heading upward out of the louvers and the hood metal is definitely cooler.

I have some louvers on the hood of my YJ and can say that it does help. I never measured either but I can tell that its pushing the heat out of there instead of baking anything under the hood. Just a quick question for everyone that has them, when it rains for a while, have you ever had any troubles starting your rig or with it stumbling at start up because of water getting on your distributor or other sensors under the hood? Just curious. Thanks!

.. when it rains for a while, have you ever had any troubles ..Nope. It doesn't get rained on a lot, but that photo of mine above (from last weekend) actually shows it very wet after a huge t-storm overnight. It started right up and ran fine. It's done that when wet from day one, never a hiccup.
