Alright I have done alot of research PSC steering boxes are way too much money so.
1. What box should I get Dakota, YJ or what and how hard is the install?
2. What pump should I get and how hard is the install.
3. What years should everything come from.

the dakota box will work

the YJ box will work

a stock power steering pump will work

Seriously - I think that most people doing these 'swaps' and noticing improvement, are really just noticing the improvement of the new equipment over their old 170,000mile pump...

I put in a YJ box and a stock steering pump from Napa and really like it... I ordered my YJ box from a 95 YJ, but I'm not sure it changes... I didn't use the 4th bolt, and don't have any plans to anytime soon...

the install takes a little bit - for the pump, buy a good power steering pulley puller / installer...
the box will require you to rent a pitman arm puller from an auto parts store...

there are many write ups out there on removing and replacing steering boxes and such... (on NAXJA)

also while you're buying parts, buy a new high pressure hose for whatever year XJ you have (should only be $20, and you have to disconnect both ends anyway)...

and look into buying a cooler for the power steering (install it on the low pressure side and in front of the radiator)
Im running one similar to this one -
http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=SUM%2DG4960A&N=700+4294888847+4294906626+400304+115&autoview=sku
and while I never measured the fluid temp before, and after, I haven't had any issues with my power steering since...

after adding up the whole price, I think you'll see that PSC isn't 'way too much money'...

:lmao:

A yj box is the same bore as an xj box, just has an extra mounting bolt. The Durango box has a larger bore.

Like xj ranger said most people probably notice the difference from old to new versus improvements.

If you cant turn 33s with your stock setup you should hit the Gym:flipoff2:

Who cares about the box, You need hydro assist for any rig that sees use in big rocks. Even with 33s you could need Hydro assist. It will proect and remove the load form other components in your system. Your question should be how to tap your stock box for hydro assist.

what he said! also read this post on naxja http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=946090&highlight=steering+pump its got some good info on a better steering pump if you do go with hydro assist. Its out of a grand chero, also yer stock box is fine for hydro assist. Just get a rebuild kit from West Texas Offroad and drill and tap it. $150 bucks later and a little fab and BAM you got hydro assist. Oh and if yer box is shit go with a YJ box (extra mounting hole and a fixed ratio box, and you can get a mount kit from TNT Customs) and if ya cant get one of those go with the durango box.SEARCH MORE then ask when you still havent figured it out.
