I wanted to get some feedback on two different designs of the main frame rails for my tube chassis rig. I need to know which would be stronger.

Design 1: straight front frame rail (white) and bent lower/rear rail (yellow)

Degisn 2: bent front frame rail (white) and bent lower frame rail (yellow)

I feel that the first design will be stronger since the rear links will be acting on a rail that is one peice and supported from behind with the front rail better. I think design 2 will have more sheer stress from the links.

But I want to know what you guys who have fabbed up a tube chassis think.

I would say #2 cause that part is gonna get beaten up and rock rash. That way you can cut the yellow off in number two and replace it if need be. You wont be cutting the solid 1 piece rail.

Either way will work though, either will be much stronger than stock if done well.

I'm with you Tyler ... i must be blind because i don't see any difference between pic 1 and pic 2 ?? nice design though ...

sorry jack, I deleted that thread cause I figured it out (after staring at it for a long time...:D)

The difference he is asking about is which piece should be made out of 1 solid piece with the other one welded. In pic 1 the yellow piece is the proposed solid piece. In pic 2 it is the white piece.

Confusing...:D

ahhh ... I see the differences now ... yeah, i'd go with deisgn #2 also ...

Thanks for the feedback. I didn't really consider having to replace the tubes, thought a skip plate would take most of the road rash.

Now that I look at it, the second design will be easier to fab and weld together.
