i have a 86 cc chevy and have been having problems with the power stering for a while. i replaced the pump and box and still after the truck warms up( driving for 15- 20 min) it starts wineing and seems to lose alot of it's power.
I jacked up the front end and blead it for 10 min or so then let it set overnight and did it again. it has been doing this for several weeks. any help would be great!
thanks
jason

describe how your bleeding it? I forget who, but on some vendors website is an excellent review and right way to bleed a system.

jacked up the front end turned it stop to stop about 20 times, started it and did the same thing. let it sit overnight and did the same thing. i was watching the fluid the whole time.

Sometimes you can still get air in the system and it will get a bunch of tiny bubbles that will still cause it to whine. If you use tranny fluid it will actually look pink from the millions of little bubbles. I would check your return line to make sure it is good and clamps are good and tight. Other than that maybe a problem with the box, or your new pump is junk. I am no expert just my .02.

I would like to know what type of reservoir and if you have any coolers set up on the system. If you have a picture that would surely help a lot. I've seen about 3 cases where the type of reservoir used was part of the problem. Anyways, post up a picture and lets go from there

That right there sounds like it could be the problem. Sometimes, the fluid just can't get cool with out a cooler. I've been able to run fully locked w/ hydro assist and no external reservoir, however you could notice a slight loss of steering power after about an hour or two of wheeling. The external reservoir really makes things nice after a whole day of wheeling in hot weather. Just my $ .02

I have thought about runnong a cooler but when this problem started i had been running the 37 toyos for a while. I started with replacing the pump but had the same problem. So I replaced the box ( after tapping for hidro assist) and it helped but didn't solve the problem. so I thought it might be a existing problem. anyways if a cooler fixes the problem that a ez fix( witch is ok with me).
