Today I drug home an 85 chevy truck 305/700r4/np208 runs good and drives good, only 1 issue with it and thats the shifting of the tranny, You have to manually go from 1-2-D-OD in order to go through gears. If you start anywhere other than 1 its feels that it somewhat drops into gear but not completly, and wont move. Once you get driving as long as you stay on the gas it will go through the gears as you manually shift. If you let off the pedal, you then have to start back over in 1st again. The tranny doesn't slip or anything all gears feel good, just the shifting issue. I know its a 700r4, nopt known to be the best things out there, but anyone have an idea on what to look at on this one??

check to see if the kick down on the carb is hooked up

tv cable is hooked up, and check fluid, its good and full
