Well I had my truck up for sale for awhlie and really did'nt get any bites so :flipoff2: I'm gonna keep it.

I wanna make it more trail worthy. I had some things in mind but it all seems way out of reach financially. So what would be the best way to start getting this thing ready for the trails again.... It's been sitting for a few months at a friends house who starts it up for me once in a while. I went and saw it for the first time on Sunday and now i've got an itch to get it back on the trails. I've already got the basic routine maintanence planned and the truck runs well.

Here's some of it's current specs

388 Stroker motor-
350 turbo trans w/shift kit-
Np205 t-case
4:88 gears front and rear
Edelbrock Performer Air Gap Manifold
Edelbrock ELlte Series valve covers
Edelbrock Elite Series Air cleaner cover
5" K&N air filter
Holley 600 carb
Doug Thorley headers
dual Flowmaster exhaust
37x1250x15 Goodyear MTR's
custom Autometer gauge cluster (water temp oil temp oil press. & vacum)
Mac Tools tach
5" fiberglass cowl induction hood
3 1/2" bulge Hanneman Fiberglass front fenders
tubbed inner wells
MSD 6a Ignition box
Msd plug wires
Grant GT wheel
Interior has been coated with Herculiner

Hit the trails and see what breaks or needs money thrown at it lol :flipoff2:

Really though is it lifted yet? If not a shackle flip never hurts

its a 4" lift.

cheap is shackle flip and rears up front.

cross over can be done for around $300-400 for everything.

i dont think the 1/2t gear will last long with that motor though.

it is a nice truck to build from :)

That's how I got the new trans the old one went pop in a bad way, split it right in half.

And yeah like trkklr said it's like a 4" lift. I'm not real into the big lifts, just enough so I can clear obstacles. That being said what's the best way to get a performance suspension without the ridiculous lift?

Hmm... i didn't think about crossover... It obviously will need some steering upgrades. I'll have to look into that.

The running gear seems to hold up ok right now, but I agree it is another weak link on this truck.

I've had the truck for like 5 years or so and i've mostly used it for a little mud and some mild trails. I want to be able to get it up big hills, over rocks, and the all the good stuff that comes with the harder trails. Stalling out has been one of my main problems when it comes to hills, both on the ascent and decline.

Try connecting the front and rear fuel bowl vents

that with the nature of carbs.

itakes more than just piping the vents together.

you never said what carb you had. stay away from edlbrock, carter, afb.

you would be better off with a DUAL feed holley, not by anymeans the best but better. a single feed has a transfer tube that will flood the down hill bowl and puke everywhere.

then a qjet, very good for 4x4 not so great for hp.

then efi.............

there are step up and the major mods when building the truck. cross over and rears are a major mod, anybody can do them but it mean some teardown and sweat,

you didnt give us much info about your current setup

you may want to start with just a riser streering arm, bolt on and $75.

your trann/tcase is fine.

i would start with the steering and go from there. the truck is wheelable.

As far as any info about the current; setup the truck is pretty stock other than what is listed...

Back when it was my Daily driver it had a Holley 750 Double Pumper on it and I was trying to pull some kind of economy out of it so I went to a 650 and then the 600 single.

Now that It is not my DD I don't care about economy... I want the power

EFI is expensive from what I've seen. Thought about Propane but even thats out of reach for me right now.

Just lookiing for little upgrades to perform capabilities right now after all money is tight. Of course somewhere down the road I plan on going all out but it wont be for a while.

Not a Cheb guy, but that's a nice rig to build from...

Get rid of the shiny shit under the hood & the go fast parts...

Let me rephrase that. Don't bother replacing anything, as it'll go well with that engine, but don't continue that trend.

If you're gonna wheel it, stop worrying about cosmetics & brand names on parts you only look at.

It's got cool potential. Now go dent it up on some rocks.:mr-t:

All the "pretty" stuff was on it when I got it.:grinpimp:

I've been thinking about welding the rear.... Will it hold? It's 1/2 ton.
