: Truckhaven??? As of today, where do we stand?
RedBullJeep 07-28-2008, 09:26 PM I know they've put a committee together...but does anyone know the "cliff notes" version of where we stand? That land is obviously VERY important to us and I'd hate to find out "too late" that we should have done something more as a group.

The first speaker was Ruth Coleman, Director of
California State Parks (Daphne's boss). She talked
about SB742 implementation and Truckhaven. Daphne
Greene spoke next and for quite a while and also took
questions. She said the Truckhaven issue has been
very difficult within the parks dept. (Anza Borrego and
OHV both want all of it). You can feel her passion as
she speaks, we are fortunate to have her. Joel Anderson
came in and spoke for a few minutes also. Lunch was
served in the same room, then we went over to the
capitol.
I thought is was just another "Daphne deal"...TJ:smokin:
RedBullJeep 07-29-2008, 09:45 AM John, does the "action committee" (don't know if that's the right term for it) contain anyone from off road that actually uses TruckHaven and knows TruckHaven and what it really is, considering our long history there???
I did comment to Daphne that I was disappointed you were not on that committee as I felt you were our best "true" representative for that area...she agreed you were our strongest advocate...(could have been sarcasm in the way she said it as she accented "strongest" ) are you included in anything?
Broke That 07-29-2008, 06:26 PM Almost forgot about Truckhaven, and its in MY backyard.
I don't want to spread misinformation, and I have not heard anything from my friends at the State Park but.....
Can I say in an optimistic way, that we are in a good place regarding Truckhaven being put under the jurisdiction of Ocotillo Wells SVRA?
It could be all about money.....well, at least it could end up being about who can afford to run the park.......and we all know how poorly the State Parks are being funded right now.
Damn it! I should know for sure how things are going there (our rival for the land, Anza Borrego State Park is run by a good friend of mine, Mark Jorgensen (Park Superintendent.). Although we are on opposite sides of this (and many) situations, I have always found Mark to be honest with me.
Let me give Mark a call....
TomJeeps 07-29-2008, 06:34 PM That's really the only positive thing I've heard regrading Truckhaven since this whole thing started, and again I do believe the consensus is Division needs to stop treating us like mushrooms:mad3:...TJ

I would like to believe that this is part of the 84 positions Division wants to add, but till they answer some questions I'm going to assume not. Their pitch on their web cast last night I'm sick of hearing how great the worlds going to be, after we throw huge bails of money at them. Also all the hardship this budget stand off is causing, because as far as I'm concerned their the ones holding it up, by not answering any questions...TJ:flipoff2:

Just because Truckhaven gets placed under the jurisdiction of the SVRA, doesn't mean that it will all stay open for OHV use.

The date on that shows June 04 and they talk in generalities, not specific areas and plans. It is hard to determine much from that, but the language is somewhat disconcerting.
TomJeeps 07-30-2008, 03:27 PM Gees you would think if it was purchased with OHV Dollars it would be a no brainer, but as Brew pointed out even if it falls under SVRA management, there's still no guarantee we'll be able to use one inch of it...TJ:shaking:
