Next spring I am thinking of getting a new truck. It will either be a 98+ F250 crew cab Lariat 4x4 PSD auto, or a 97+ Dodge 2500 extended cab CTD auto fully loaded 4x4. I am not gonna be towing a huge trailor or anything all the time. Maybe once or twice a year, and it will probobly be around 7K LBS. Basically, the truck will be a daily driver also. I know the Dodge tranny's puke when you tow too much weight with them, but what about the Fords? I don't think 7K lbs would be too much for the dodge tranny, but I am not sure. What are your guys thoughts? What is the best truck for a dd? Also, what about maintenence? I know oil changes are quite a bit more than gas, but I don't know how much. Also, how often do you change the oil?

if you are willing to get the 97 in the dodge, why not look at the 97's in the ford. besides that i dont think there was a 98 PSD. i think it went from 97 to 99. IMO, the 97's were much stronger then the 99's. in the 97's, the automatic was a E4OD. im not sure about the dodges, but i think the main problem with them is heat...if you put a big cooler on them i have heard they are better...

Umm the first powerstrokes came in 94 model truck only with a 5-speed. In 1997 ford finally built the E4OD damn near built proof. in 1999 ford went with the 4R100. its based on the E4OD but its even stronger than the E40D.
