Found a nice 97 blazer with a messed up tranny.
Owner says he bought it a couple months ago and he lost 3rd and overdrive on the way home. Shifts into 1st 2nd and reverse just fine and doesnt slip at all, just no 3rd or 4th. He told me he has changed the fluid and filter but of course that didn't do anything. Has anyone had this happen? I have heard something about a 2nd to 3rd shift solenoid before but dont know much about auto transmissions. It would be a hell of a deal if I could fix it halfway cheap but I cant find a decent tranny close for less than $600 and everyone wants $1000 to rebuild one.

Hate to burst your bubble, but you are going to need the trans rebuilt. $1000 is pretty cheap, so make sure you are getting quality parts and upgrades.

By the way, my money is on the 3/4 clutch being smoked!
