: Converting to Dana 80 front-end....
jjdeneen918 07-29-2008, 07:32 AM Ok, I have a '78 Chevy 1 ton, 2 wheel drive. I'm looking to convert it to 4 wheel drive.
I found a Dana 80 front end out of a '78 Dodge tow truck. But its a dually-style front end.
what i want to know is, can i convert that to a single wheel front end?
I'm also curious, what if i got a set of GM military H1 wheels, would those bolt on and work? I heard they have a deep off-set and might work, then just get wheel spacers for the rear to make it look right?
Thanks for the help, i tried to search, but there isn't much info on D80 stuff...
nvrenuf 07-29-2008, 07:58 AM You sure it's an 80? I've never heard of any OE 80 front axles and, afaik, rear 80's were not in production yet (in '78).
rcurrier44 07-29-2008, 08:49 AM Is it a 8 lug or 10 lug? The only 80's I have seen were 10 lug.... and that won't work with stock H1's obviously...

he could just get some custom usa 6x6 centers with a ten lug pattern..couldn't tak more than a couple weeks:flipoff2:
trkklr77 07-29-2008, 10:58 AM yeah! get 6x6 wheel, just be sure to pay for them right away!!!
jjdeneen918 07-29-2008, 03:58 PM i brushed all the grime off the axle, and it said " D 80", in the upper corner of the pumpkin housing, so the top corner next to the long tube side.
The diameter of the hub is larger than the dana 60's 4" hub too. I measured it at about 4.75"....
its 8 lug

Pics of the diff cover, knuckle and bearing hub. ;)
Also, the axle model number is found in the lower right webbing as you are facing the diff cover. A front D60 will have "60F" cast into it.
tacoma73 07-29-2008, 05:02 PM x11tybillion on the pics. I would love to see an 80 front end.

I'll get pics if I ever get back to that junkyard, it was pertty far from my house.

Yeah, because everyone knows that bandwidth is free, and even if it costs money, pics don't take any up.
Davethorik 07-30-2008, 04:03 PM I am willing to bet any takers that its not a D80 front.
The only ones that exist are custom made, and I highly doubt something Steve Gerstner created fell into your lap via a junkyard.

For the hell of it, I'll post my front Dana 70 pics to use for comparison:
