So I started a diesel thread, now lets talk about axles... how common is Dana outside of the US? What else is common?

Your best bet as far as liability and parts availability is Toyota for sure.
Not talking about axles only. Engines, Tranny, everything.

Mog portals are fairly common outside NA, but for cheap and reliable can't beat toys.

Obviously anything is stronger than the crap D30 i've got up front but they are stronger than a D44?

I've heard the smallest part of both Toy & 44 shafts are about 1.25"

So should be similar.

You chose if you like\dislike removable third vs dana, birfield vs joint.

1.24" minor spline diameter for the Toyota versus 1.128 for the Dana 44. The Dana 44's big advantage is the joints. I would argue that a Toyota axle is cheaper to upgrade than a 44 such as high strength shafts, crossover steering, etc. But the u-joints are still arguably stronger...

Hi everybody, i'm luca from italy, I'm very proud to write in this forum for the firsttime!!! Downhere the best upgrade for tj or Yj in terms of strenght and weight is to swap nissan gr Y61 axles. they weight more or less 400 lbs(pair) and come stock with 37 spline shafts and the housing is one piece.. more or less the same construction of toy axles but really BIGGER!!

the axles luca is talking about are known as GU nissan patrol diffs in aus, basicly if you compete or do hardcore wheeling you will eventually upgrade to nissan diffs :D

but dont most places out side of america stick to 33 to 35 inch tires, i know in some places in europe there are legal limits to how big of tires you can have, which is why in europe wheeling videos their rigs always look small.

I think alot of it isnt just the laws but also the fact that people from other countries dont have the bigger is better mindset us Americans do. Bigger fries and bigger trucks, its the way we are. Truth of the matter is that 90% of us could get by with 33's.

Not to mention when you start talking about driving roads as much as trails those sizes are more practical.
