Don't do it. Go get a lock-right or ez locker if you are trying to save $$$.

If you drive in a straight line all the time then go for it.

lockers in the front arent a bad idea, just a lincoln lock in the front is a bad idea, but IF you have manual locking hubs, Id give it a shot. Or go spool. Rockbuggy has a spool in his front D44 and can tell you more about what its like.

Stop being a panzy and just spool it or weld that fawker up... all these guys telling you "Dont do it" blah.. blah.. blah. Its not that bad seriously. Ive got my front spooled and have not one regret. Just rip the damn diff cover off, lay out some fatty welds, put the fawkin cover on, lube it up and walla, your ready to beat it!

NOTE: I forgot to mention this key element. If you dont have full floating hubs than I wouldnt really suggest doing it. The fawker would be a little harsh for everyday onroad use. Also if your worried your not going to like it. Weld the bastard up, go out wheelin, if you dont like big deal your out $1.50 in welding rod.

I am thinking of doing this on my D30 with the Vacuum Disco (kinda like manual hubs on one side only)

I know my DS will constantly spin.

opinions?

I run ARB's front and rear and drive with them out most of the time because it drives so much better disengaged but hey you go for it since it doesn't cost much. You asked for oppinions and mine is go with a ez or lock-right.

I have a stock D30, the front has been welded for about 2years with no ill effects except that the DS spins all the time. It will be a little hard to steer, but if you take the vacuum switch off your tcase for the front axle and make a manual switch you can choose 3 or 4 wheel drive on demand. Makes turning a piece of cake. Hope this helps.

****** Exactly what i wanted to know. Thanks. Does it only effect Steering when the 4WD is engaged? Does it effect it in 2WD?

thanks

No there is no effect on 2wd steering. I used a vacuum switch off of a "Tommy Lift" tailgate.

My front D60 is welded....Just hope you dont blow up your power steering far, far, far away from home....Speaking from experience!!
Hey Mangler...Take out your rear d-shaft and disco the front axle and see just what its like with one wheel drive in the front...not something I would want as a DD..JMO..
Always think ahead for the worst possible situations.

I have a detroit up front on my d-30 and it made a differnece till I put my unlocking hubs on. I would not of bought them but I got to good of deal to pass up. It sure beats climing under the jeep and having to rehook the driveshaft every time tha I want to go wheeling <IMG SRC="smilies/grinpimp.gif" border="0">

Don't waste a single penny on a LS. They don't work when you really need the traction.

I am welded in front and true it is a bi**h to turn when both are locked but it works great. btw if only one tire is in the air its not so bad turning.
