84 chevy silverado half ton
new crate engine 383.
new holley 770cfm carb
new dist
we have the firing order correct, tried two different sets of wires, and still backfires through the carb when trying to start it up.

timing, or problem with carb?

ill delete this as soon as we fix it. thanks guys

Sounds like the distributor is 180* out. Move the #1 wire to where the #6 wire is and start re-wiring it from there, bet it starts....

or even a tooth off,

when you install the dist you need to spin the rotor past your #1 mark so that it lands on it when the dist seats fully.
