Its an aluminum case. Most likely destroyed it.

Happened on my 9"...

Just sent pieces of the bearing everywhere. Didnt damage anything else. When you put it back together, make sure and get all the bearing carnage removed from your case if thats what happened.

If the case is damaged, it'll be pretty obvious (cracked).

Case being fine, I'd say chances are good you'll have some chipped teeth on the R&P gears and will need to replace them (good time for a ratio upgrade).

Blown pinion bearings are pretty rare on them though (unless you way overtightened them). The aluminum does conduct any heat away from the bearings pretty well.

havent touched the pionon or anything, im 99%positive its nto cracked but i was figuring at bare minimum id need all fornt bearings seals, maybe the ring and pinon, im ok wiht the stick ratio of 3.73s i use it as my dd and dont need lower gearing i think?

Dana35

If you're happy with 3.73s, then just get another chunk from a junkyard. Much cheaper than trying to setup a new set of gears in your old one (sometimes you can sell those cases, damage to them from cheapass liftkit drop plate brackets is common, and could make a good replacement for someone).

is it commen for the 4.0's to have 183 on the clock and still do a brake stand in 2nd gear? im only spining 30'' tires to.

Lol. Yeah, as long as it has had some maintenance on it, it should still be running fine. I am at 160 and it still rips it up pretty good.

Sometimes you get a better 3rd member from the junk yard than you already have!

I once went to the local pick-n-pull, to get a D35 3rd member.....I only wanted the pig cause I was gonna lock it and upgrade the gears and then swap it in. So I chose a 92 Explorer as my victim and began to pull the pig...it had the same ratio as mine, so I thought if nothing else, I will get the whole thing so I can swap it in directly if for some reason I dont get it upgraded and something happens in the mean time...when I got it out, it STILL HAD THE FACTORY GEAR MARKING COMPOUND ON IT!!! So I swapped it in "as-is" and upgraded my original pig w/ gears and a locker.

I have since pulled 9 other pigs that were in similar condition.

Go for the Explorers. Most of them were bought either by or for soccer moms and the most off-road action they ever saw was an accidental trip through the flower bed while backing out of the driveway.

Seals, maybe... You don't need bearings though (and if you do, then you don't want that pig anyway).
