Hey, I'm new to this board and could use a little info. I'm looking for the lenght of the input shaft for an AX-15 or NV-3550. Anyone know what the lenght is, or have a tranny they could measure?
TIA,
Randall

I found an AX-15 locally that came from a 258 in a YJ. Does anyone know if this tranny will work on a 4.0? It seems to me that it would since you can use the 258 crank in a 4.0 block. With the exception of the pilot bearing which I know is larger on the newer models, is the input shaft the same length? Anyone know?
Thanks,
Randall

Howdy,
Are you sure it is a AX-15? The AX-15 only came on the 258 from mid 89 to 91.

What year is it going into?

I just put a rebuilt AX-15 in my 89 YJ with a 258. The guys at the shop told me that all the AX-15 were the same except for the input shaft pilot diameter. Big or small. mine was small.

there was also the front cover that can be swapped depending on internal slave or not.

Yeah it's definately an AX, it's from a '90 YJ. I'm thinking of doing an engine swap for my TJ using the stock NV-3550 tranny. I just want to know if the input shafts are the same lengths, If they are I can use the AX-15 that I found as a jig to fab up a new bellhousing.
Thanks,
Randall
