: 401 to Tf 727 What is the correct Flexplate

Anyone know which Flexplate I need????? Advance has listing for two, Part 3232141 and 3214090, one has 165 teeth, one has 164. Will they both work?

I would look up by application. The 401/727 flexplate is not very common since they went out of production when amc stopped putting the 401s in their cars. International used the 401 in the '73/'74 IH Travelall C1010 SUVs. These trucks had the amc 401 and amc pattern 727s in them. All of the jeep trucks that would have had the 401s had TH400s so no luck on scoring a 727 flexplate from that application. '72-'76 AMC 401 Matador is a good source for this flexplate. Just be sure to remove the reducer ring that may be in the back of the crank (steps the convertor size down to fit the th400), especially if the 401 came from a jeep application.

You can still buy the flexplates new but their are two kinds...

Pioneer = good
The other brand I cant remember has a bad offset, is wobbly and runs out of round

how do you get the reducer ring out?

i used a dremel.... its about an 1/8th of an inch thick.. and you might not even be able to see it.. i found mine when the torque converter wouldn't bolt up correctly... once you cut through one side of it, it will pop right out...
