'96 means OBDII, and that means no removing emissions equipment or you will have a check engine light. 'Course that doesn't mean you actually have to install a check engine light in your rig! :D If you want to keep the check engine light and not have it lit, you'll have to have the ECM reprogrammed to not use all those extra sensors, solenoids, etc. If you could find a vehicle that's a year or two older, you could still get the benefits of a mass air system without the pains of an OBDII system. Still some sensors, etc. to worry about, but not as many.

Why do it in the first place? It isnt like your going to gain any power, unless your crap isn't working correctly I would leave it alone.

thats where ur wrong, if its gutted will be alot easier to work on thats the only reason for it, as long as the motor runs right i dont care about a check engine light, i jsut want the smog shit gone and it to not blow up, any one have any diagrams?

no, your not gaining anything from removing that crap. yes, room. no, you will end up wiht an engine light, and its going to make you pull your hair more than the "room" is worth.

just trying to save you the headache. but, if you want...

i know the engine light aint a big deal to you, but what happens when you remove certain items, the engine still runs fine, the engine light is on...then you do have sensor problems the purpose of the engine light is to let you know when to run a code scan....how are you gonna know when you have sensor trouble if the light is on all the time? if you are determined to lighten the wiring harness...remove it ALL, and get a painless wiring harness which would be limited to the functions needed for proper engine operations. ford is notorious for combining essential and non-essential circuits in their harnesses...(airbag harness w/ injector harness), so removing one hurts the other. if you dont like this........remove it all and carb it! DO IT RIGHT!
