I need to make a decision on how to mount my winch. I was set on doing a multi mount but now I'm debating on that or just mounting to the front. The advantage I see to the multi is you can use it front or rear plus take it off when not wheeling so it woun't be stollen. The dis-advantage is extra wiring cost. The front mount would be cheaper and maybe stronger but it will sit in the weather and be easier to steel. What do you think?

thats the main reason i love the multi mount is the point of taking it off, my truck sits in kinda crappy neighborhood and i worry about that too. also another thing i liked about the multimount is you can bring it to another vehical that is stuck somewhere so you dont have to drive to him.

if you go with the bumper mount and want to be parnoid, on my car trailer i ended up tacking a few of the bolts kinda thick so you cant get a socket on it, but it will only take a minute or so of grinding to get it off if needed

I was going to go with the multi mount on mine. Then I figured I would end up on a situation where I needed my winch and it would be sitting at home. A friend of mine had his on a multi-mount and ended up never taking it off, so he finally just permanently mounted it.

Front mount with recommended tack welds. If they want the winch that bad they will just steal the rig. 125' of cable some tow straps, tree saver or so and a couple of pillow blocks and D rings and you can reach just about anything. Just my $.02 on the subject.

Two of your bolts run through it into the winch, then the cover goes on and locks in place. No grinding to pull the winch.

Tack weld washers to the bolt heads, then beat the washer down around the bolt head so you can't get a wrench on it. Just some simple grinding and prying to get them off when you want.

I'm suprised knowbody has voted for the multi mount. It seems like a cool idea. You can use it in the front or rear and with the proper set up you could put it on anyones rig tha has a reciever. Or even on a trailer. Maybe people are seeing something I'm not? I would love to here some reason why front is better than multi. P.S. bacon speaks for it's self.:confused:

My buddy has receiver mounts on his YJ, I couldn't stand the winch sticking out like that catching on everything and robbing attack and departure angles.

Mutli mounts do offer more options for getting un stuck but the extra wiring could be cost prohibitive. I've never liked the look of multi mounted winches. They also hurt your approach and departure angle. You could mount it inside but then you've got to make space. When you need it, you're likely to have to unbury it from the rig.
