Well, I lended a hand with a guy changing his SECOND broken Longfield at ERoCC. My brother took a digipic but apparently has forgotten to send it to me. I'll post that as soon as he sends it.

The welded on ring was cracked away and I think they said the inner was cracked somehow.

He was running CV Unlimited inner shafts and said this was the SECOND one he had broken since he put those shafts on.

BTW, it was a Landcruiser, the guy is on the board but I cannot remember his screen name or name (I apologize). Ill try and get pics of the rig. He was gettin it on an obstacle called Hardcore at ERoCC in a bad position but they said they thought it might have been cracked/ broken for a while.

Naw, it wasen't spaceghost (mike). He toasted a hub pretty good though.

Im talkin about the tan landcruiser with 38's in Unlimited.

I didnt know you (fabricator) were there. Sorry I missed ya!

I was playing Where's Wal...I mean Where's DRM all morning until someone told me he had backed out last minute! No wonder I had such a hard time spotting him!

Even saw a guy with a FORD Triton Motors hat on that I was sure was him. After some suttle DAVID yells and no turn I realized it wasent him.

Yeah, I was gonna kick myself for going to watch instead of working on my own truck...

So I took my 60's over to get 3/4 ton disk brakes on all 4 corners, put on a yard sale Sat. morning (gotta pay for this stuff somehow!), helped with a benefit auction Saturday night, and Sunday... well, that is a surprise :D

I take it you talked to the crew from EOR in finding out I was not gonna be there?

Yeah, I know what ya mean about missing work on a rig. Always one thing or another. I think overall watching competition hurrys me up. Reminds me how damn much I wanna have a truck to drive!!!

Not sure if it was EOR boys, I was just asking around if anyone had spotted you and someone said he knew you werent coming. Cant really remember who, just a guy.

Oh well, guess I brought my autograugh book for nothin:D

That scares me to think that by just "asking around" - people know where I am at any given time  :p

Lets see it!
Also, what kind of locker did the guy have? I assume that they were hardened inner shafts that the guy was running. Did he have asian hubs? What ratio r&p and what brand?
Did he send them back to Bobby yet? If so, I'll get a picture from him.

Ron Maximoff is the owner of the tan Cruiser, his spotter is Darold (Dar) Howard. I heard he broke one at the June event when the knuckle broke on Jerry's Drive In.

I heard he broke another this weekend. Also don't know if either is on this board.

I did break the custom short side axle on Hardcore and after much verbal abuse my Cruiser responded to a high range 2nd gear attack to complete the obstacle in 3wd. Didn't actually break a hub, just slapped it back together after changing the inner and it was bound up. Had to yank it off and line it up at the starting gates afterward.

I have broken a Longfield, with stock inners. The cage that retains the balls was muched, the rest was intact. I sent it to Bobby with a note, admitting I had originally cranked in my steering stops, wheeled the shit out of it that way, then after 4 inners, wised up and adjusted the stops back out. Bobby called me this morning and let me now the replacement was on the way. He is a great guy to deal with!

I have talked to Bobby on many occasions, and I am not gonna expect him to keep replacing these if I tear them up. I hope he knows that. I will play and I will PAY. For those of you doing anything less than the demanding extremes of competition, I'm not sure you can break them. That assumes you aren't doing it intentionally.

My Cruiser is light Blue, got some badlands stickers, and a skull and crossbones. Did we talk?

I was part of Ron's pit crew. We changed the Longfield in 21 minutes. Ron runs 38.5 sx 4.88 gears and and ARB lockers front and back, tuned port small block, split tcase and a turbo 400. The second day we toasted a newfield which in turn tore up the new cr mo inner shaft, a drive shaft yoke and then the rear ARB. When the rear ARB went that pretty much did us in.:D

As I understand after talking to Bobby Long, his warranty is only good if you are running with stock inner axles. When he designed and built these birfs he wanted the inner axle to break before the birf, so up here in Washington we could still drive out of the trail and be able to turn

makes sence, but the guy that was advertising them here 1st said 300 sets none broken..........sounds like some must have broke by your post above............I don't think I would break them, I just recently broke my 1st and 2nd stocker with a open front no less, power braking it on the trail making the front lock up, it's a way bad idea, puts them in a bind:D I will likly get a set later on, I think a trail rig with them and the inners, will last a long time, comp rigs, I would still run stock inners.

For $115 per, who really cares? If you're not running them by now, you're :rainbow:. I blew out my front R and P Friday night probably because of the Longfields. Do I care, fuck no. Change to a spare third and get it this weekend in the Hammers.

Spaceghost has it right, it's pay to play.

I don't understand that comment. The difference between 1st and 2nd place has been less than 1 time/point out (40 pts) at the Erocc events. You get 45 minutes of total breakdown time per day.

No penalty for breaking an inner on the trail, if it wasn't such a pain I'd swap between the 2 and run the stock ones when wheeling.

In comps if you break anything that keeps you from getting off the obstacle, with a good score your chances of winning go to hell. Since all of our rigs are different this strategy is impacted by what we run. An example is I have never seen a stock Cruiser r&p ripped up, but a mini with 5.29's is a weak link, sure you can snap off a pinion with axle wrap, but twist one off? Toy u-joints don't spit out like the 44's, Asin locking hubs won't be the fuse in most of our applications.

This isn't a debate on the whats weak, but rather my take on getting a little more, and going further before you have to wrench.

How does All Pro resolve the inner axle strength issue with their hybrid ford outers on a mini housing? Are they changing something at the diff to run bigger axles?

pmurf1--blew your front ring/pinion? I would be very interested in the circumstances there.... 5.29s?....brand?

you may want to run them and risk a r&p, being it's a cruza you are talking about, I was only talking about minis, my thinking is a r&p breaking, faster and less damaging to swap an inner......but comps not my thing so you being in it will know a ton more about what will work then I. I'm not like saome on this bb who "don't do comps" but have all the answers, you know what I mean?BaaaaaaaaaaaaaaWaaaaaaaaaaaaaaHaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaWaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa...........!!!!!!!!!; )

Actually I DO know WHAT and WHO you mean! What's funnier is everyone but them know who they are tooooooooooooo :flipoff2:

If my shit was in my garage in pieces, hadn't been wheeled since 35" became small shoes, I would keep my pie hole closed!

BTW I THINK that is ToyTech74's head in the pic! I dont even think he really knew the guy that broke, he just started changin that birf like a champ! I helped hold the truck on the tiny stock jack  I also ordered my brother to get off a huge rock and get his ass over there to take a picture of the thing.:D
