: Who has the best price on the jd3?
1TONTJ 07-29-2002, 06:54 AM I did a search and a lot of people mention http://www.vansantent.com/model_3_bender.htm but that web site is down? Anyone got a phone number for them?
I want to buy a jd2 model 3 without the degree wheel (since the write-up says not to bother with it) and get a 2" (6.5-180) die to make Jeep cages.
Should I just order from Jd2 direct, or what?
Thanks for the info,
Phil Jensen
1TONTJ 07-29-2002, 07:09 AM I was also trying to call this place:
http://mtechsales.com/products/Benders/Model3Spec.shtml
But their number is out of service. I sent an email.
Are they still in business?
Then there is:
http://www.mtechsupply.com
But their model 3 pricing is higher than anyones?
Is the vansantent place still in business?
Anyone get a better price from anywhere?
Thanks,
Phil
EasyXJ 07-29-2002, 07:43 AM my model 3 should be here sometime this week. I got it from mtech. Model 3 w/ 1.75" die to my door $517.82. I need to build the stand and handle when it gets here. Less than 2 weeks to get it and they are supposed to be getting a shipment in on Tues.

1TONTJ 07-29-2002, 07:46 AM Which one of the TWO mtech's did you get yours from? Supply, or sales?
Thanks,
Phil
EasyXJ 07-29-2002, 08:08 AM supply, there # is 480-726-2876. They are located in Arizona.

Seems like the standard price is about $235 for the bender w/o degree ring, and around $200 for the die set (depending on which one).
My bender and 1.75" die set was like $485 to my door...
1TONTJ 07-29-2002, 08:30 AM I think I found the best price from here:
http://mtechsales.com/products/Benders/Model3Spec.shtml
It is $225 for the bender and $215 for the 2" (6.5-180) die.
Just waiting for them to price shipping for me.
Thanks,
Phil

I just got off the phone with Usitech in Paris Ontario, they sell Pro Tools benders. A model 105 HD bender is $590, I didn't ask the price of the non HD model. 2" dies are $416 for the 180 degree and $480 for the 240 degree. I'm going there on saturday to pick up a 1 3/4" 240 for my bender.
Depending on shipping, duty and taxes, it might be cheaper to go there. The # is 519-458-4135. I also know a guy in Hastings that made me a 2" 120 degree die for $225 but it took over 6 months to get

1TONTJ 07-29-2002, 03:13 PM Thanks for the good info Tass.
We have ways of avoiding brokerage fees and taxes though ;)
It will be cheaper for me to get the jd2 than you are paying for the other one. But I may contact them for other things. Can never have too many parts contacts.
Also, it seems the jd2 model three is better than the pro tools (from what I read anyway).
Thanks,
Phil

I just ordered one from VanSant, and they told me that it will be three weeks before I get it, because the manufacturer is behind on orders (at least that is their story).
BTW, the site is back on line. Phone # is 877-VAN-SANT if you want to call them.
1TONTJ 07-30-2002, 06:41 AM Thanks, just gave them a call.
Phil
Bill4rest 07-30-2002, 08:52 AM I ordered mine direct from JD2
1TONTJ 07-30-2002, 09:46 AM Ok, to answer my own question. Cheapest price is from M-Tech Sales (http://www.mtechsales.com)
They took $10 off the bender and the dies ($225 for the bender and $215 for the 2" (6.5 - 180) die) and the shipping comes to $50.75
So the total is $490.75.
$20 less than direct from JD2($510.75)
$22 less than vansant ($512.70)
$26 less than m-tech supply ($516.88)

I'd like to know too, this cross-border stuff is killing me:(
I saw a used bender with hydraulics and a 1 3/4" die for $750 in the Tri-Ad last week (southwestern Ontario edition). Not sure what model it was though.

I ordered mine from them also. It was $486.96 to my door for the model 3 with the degree ring, and a 1½" 180° 4½" radius die. Ask them to drop ship it, and you will save some money.
EasyXJ 07-30-2002, 05:45 PM Mine showed up today, exactly 1 week and 2 days from order date. I guess it's time to waste a bunch o money on junked up bent tubing.

1TONTJ 07-31-2002, 04:43 AM Tricks to get stuff across the border:
1.a. Do not send cross border with UPS, FEDEX, etc.
They charge "brokerage fees" of up to 20% in ADDITION to the taxes and duties. We send our stuff to www.mbe.com in Ogdensburg NY. That is 45 minutes from here, and they charge $5 per box (get everything shipped in one huge box ;) ). No need to have a mailbox there, nothing will fit in it anyway, and they charge you the same $5 per box if it is oversized.
1.b. Send cross border with USPS.
The united states postal service (and CPC) do not charge brokerage fees. Use them to ship across the border and indicate a lower than actual value for tax purposes.
2. Get a receipt for less money.
Most companies will send a second receipt for less money if you ask them. If the receipt is grossly less than the actual value then get a creative excuse. For example: A set of 38.5x14.5" SX's brand new had a receipt for US$375 for the set and said
"NOTE: Out of round factory seconds. No warantee is expresed or implied. Tires will not balance, off-road use only"
Or mention "factory samples" or refurbished, or whatever.
Basically give the impression that the stuff is junk ;)
3. Indicate origin.
Get "Made in USA" written on it, so there is no confusion about the origin. With NAFTA there is no duty on American stuff.
4. Don't declare everything.
If you have a few things to pick up, then try to install one on your truck. For example: Drive across to pick up gears/lockers/soft doors, then drive across with no doors, install the doors and drive back only paying the taxes on the gears and lockers.
As long as you are paying for something - it doesn't look suspicious. You can also do things like throw away the packaging, wrap the parts in tape or something old looking (greasy finger prints work well to make it look old) and throw them in your tool box/trunk and say they are spares if anyone ever asks.
So, then you go across the border and pick up your parts, come back acros and only pay taxes on some of the goods at a much lower declared value.
Saves you hundreds (or thousands) depending on what you are buying.
NOTE: This disccusion was for entertainment purposes only, don't come whining to me if you screw up and get caught :D
HTH,
Phil

I did get it drop shipped, that's one of the things that made it so cheap.

StinkBug 07-31-2002, 09:25 AM I heard from a friend that JD2 offers a 15% discount if you order 3 or more dies with the bender. is this true? do these other places do the same thing? I'm gonna be gettin 3 dies when i order my bender next month, and a friend needs a couple too, so if we order it all at once it'd be nice to get a discount.

From their web-site:
"Order a Model 3 Bender with 3 to 4 die sets and receive 5% off the die sets normal price. Order 5 or more die sets increases the discount to 10%."
But I bet m-tech would do that too, so it would still be cheaper.
www.mtechsales.com was the best price I could find.
Phil
never use UPS for cross border.
I got free warrantee warn hubs in 2 seperate boxes for $14 brokerage on each box.
thanks but no thanks
